Sandy's Story

Sandy (Wilhelmi) Staloch is from Minneapolis, Minnesota. My schools include Irving, Holy Rosary, Phillips Jr High, South High School, The City Inc. and Blair Jr. College, Colorado Springs, CO. I resided in Colorado Springs, CO from January 1981 - June 1988 and was employed at Shepard's McGraw Hill for 6 years before moving back to Minnesota to be closer to family. Upon returning to Minnesota with my son, Luke and husband, John we bought a home in North Mpls. I acquired a job in Direct Marketing for IDS which later became American Express Financial Services. My husband, John had a used car business before moving into the real estate investment business. I held several positions in my 17 years with IDS/American Express before making the move to self employment in 2005. My family and I moved to Brooklyn Center in 1994, Linwood, MN in 1998 and we have resided in Stanchfiled, MN approximately 60 miles north of the Cities since 2006. My husband John and I owned and operated the Dugout Bar & Grill in Bethel, MN from June 2005 - December 2012. In 2008 we purchased Tommy's Roadhouse in Weber, MN and renamed it Jumpin' Jacks and in 2011 we took on yet another project and purchased Heart Breakers Nightclub in Harris, MN, and renamed it The Fuse. My husbnd had a vision for all of these bars and remodeled all of them in one way or another. We sold The Fuse July 1, 2014 in an effort to start preparing for rertirement, enjoying life more and not working so hard. We love nature, camping, music, motorcycling, boating, traveling and animals and birds (we have 6 calves, 2 dogs, 2 llamas and 2 new baby lambs; in our years in Linwood we raised peacocks, ducks, geese, chickens, turkeys and guinea hens).. I also love the Arts, canoeing, walking, reading and I enjoyed doing a lot of volunteer work before becoming self employed. I did Meals on Wheels for 7 years, babysat at Eden House, was one of the book ladies with the red wagon at Children's Hospital in the Cancer Ward and I participated in many United Way Volunteer efforts among others. I was a active member of the Bainbridge American Legion Auxiliary for 5 years and President for 3 years. While at American Express I was the running club captain for my building, so I participated in many charitabe 5 K's for many years (as a walker, never a runner)...Expand for more
with co-workers and my chiildhood friend, Pam (Johnson) Winslow and her husband Ron who we sadly lost to cancer in March, 2011. I was fortunate to work for a few years with a staff of developmentally handicapped adults and as a group with co-workers we did many activities outside of work with them...what a joy and priviilledge! In our younger years my husband John and I were both avid pool and horseshoe players.and I'm sorry, but I like to boast that I was the Women's Horseshoe Champion for Donkey Derby Days in Cripple Creek, Colorado 2 years in a row, I came in 3rd with the men at the Rocky Mountain Home Brew Festival and I was Women's Champ of Robbinsdale Whiz Bang Days 2 years in a row. The good ol' days, haha! Anyways, being self employed put a quick halt to most extra curricaular activities, but we had some great years at the Dugout in Bethel where I was constantly planning weekly events, entertainment and parites and just running the day to day business along with our real estate business. We made a lot of good friends and selling and leaving the Dugout was one of the toughest things I've done, but like anything you just keep moving forward. My family has been blessed with good health and for that I'm thankful. I still have all my brothers (Chuck and Dave) and sisters (Cindy, Diane and Sharon) and my very, special Mom who just turned 80 and is doing pretty good. My Dad passed away in 1993 and we still miss him lots. He was a good samaritan and us kids learned a lot from his acts of kindness to others. I am looking forward to relaxing a little now that I am just running one business and plan to spend more time traveling and hope to spend more time with family and get back into doing some volunteering in my community. My hubby and I paln to start spending more and more time in Florida during the upcoming winters (although I'd rather be in Colorado, God's Country). I actually graduated from the City, Inc., but received a South High Diploma, so I was only at South HIgh my sophmore and junior year. If any of you remember me, it'd be great to hear from some of you. I see a lot of names on here that I remember, but until recently haven't had much time to get on this site. Happy Trails to all of you! I'm sure I'll read this at a later date and think, boy was I rambling, haha!
