Sara's Story

Friends and Classmates of Sara MacFarlane. This is Sara husband Randy writing this on behalf of Sara. You may or not have heard, Sara passed away tragically while ridding her horse on July 15, 2008. I include this because everyone has asked, but something happened while she was out ridding on the trails at Proud Lake State Park with her horse, she was unseated and came off her horse and was instantly killed. She left behind 2 boys that she loved (Lee 4/6/1997 and Keving 5/9/1999) and her husband of 15 yrs who absolutely adored her and gave her everything she ever wanted and then some. No was not in my vocabulary. Since graduating school, Sara tried several different careers (photography, banking) and several different locations (Vale, CO and Connecticut ) before attending Michigan State University and settling on Veterinary Medicine (which is where she met me). She graduate in 1992 with a degree in Veterinary Medical Technology and moved to the Detroit area where she worked in a veterinary clinic for years. (Time to be romantic here¿) Valentines¿ day 1993 on Silver Beach, down on one knee, Sara agreed to be my wife (yes I did get permission from her father and mother before asking for her hand in marriage). We where married 1 year later Valentines¿ weekend at St Joseph Catholic Church and had our reception at the Landmark (2 weeks before it burned down). We lived in South Lyon, MI (far outskirts Northwest of the Detroit Metro Area) in a little 3 bedroom house with no basement and no garage. In 1995, Sara took over as the office manager of an Equine Veterinary Hospital (yes she had horse in the early days, too many to name but she finally settled on a horse, ELMO, who is still with us, retired living in the back yard). In 1997, she gave birth to her first son, LEE JAMES on April 7th. A little blue eyed, blond hair spitting image of his mother. In 1999, Mother¿s day, she gave birth to her second son KEVIN MICHEAL (unfortunately, this one is the spitting image of me¿.). She continued to run the practice and raise the 2 boys until 2001 when the practice was sold. At this time, her wandering spirit craved for a change and Sara went to school again first to learn to be a Cosmetologist and then a few years later as a Real Estate Appraiser. But, in all that time, she never lost her love of animals and she continued to work part time somewhere at a Vete...Expand for more
rinary Clinic several times a month (right up until the time she died). She always had music in her life, when first coming to the Detroit area, she started playing with the Novi Community band and after a few years wanted more of a challenge so she went and tried out for the Schoolcraft College ensemble band. She played with the college for quite a few years as their third chair trumpet. Just a few years ago, she wanted to try a different challenge and moved to the Schoolcraft College Jazz band. She also learned to play piano and to this day her son Kevin still plays and takes lessons (to be honest, she trained Kevin so well, from the other room I could never tell which one of the two was playing). The last few years, she rediscovered her athletic side, as you all know, she did high jumping in school (sorry I don¿t know a lot about this, she was always vague about this). The last 5 years, Sara (and I) started playing soccer together on a co-ed team twice a week. She was quite good and had a fiery spirit about her. She would go up and challenge (much to my worry) the biggest guys on the field with the ball with no fear of getting hurt. Her favorite line when she was knocked to the ground by another female was ¿¿fat cow¿¿. (Sorry to all the women out there she said that two, but that was just her competitive spirit talking). My beloved was 41 when she left this world the way she would want to, on her horse. She had lots of animals in her life (at the present time she has 60 gal fish tank, 1 bunny SNOWBALL, 1 cat JIBIN, 2 dogs ANGEL and TROUBLE, and 3 horses ELMO, MAGGIE and PETE). As I mentioned earlier, she never wanted for anything, she wanted one horse, I gave her 3, she wanted one dog, I gave her 2, she wanted a trumpet, I found the best I could for her for Christmas. Know that her life was full of happiness, joy and love and that Sara was more than just loved by her husband (me), she was adored and worshiped. Not a day goes by that I don¿t shed a tear for her and tell her how much I still love her. I would love to hear from anyone she knew in school to tell me stories of the young Sara, the one who I have only heard snippets of stories. I am trying to write these down so that I can pass them on to her two sons (yes they are my boys too, but for now, these boy belong to her¿) when they are ready. Sincerely Her adoring, loving husband Randy
