Sarah's Story
I was born in the busy little town of Las Vegas, Nevada in 1970. My family finally realized by '77, right after Elvis died, that sin city was not the place to raise a family. We ended up in the beautiful neighborhoods of Everett, Wa. where it was like a cold tropical paradise. I still go back to Vegas to visit my brother and his family and childhood friend Kimmy. Of course, I never pass up a good show or spa there, but am more at home in the northwest.
Here is where I met my very best friend Gabrielle. She was the first to introduce herself in my neighborhood and thirty years later we are very much kindred spirits. I remember my first day here in third grade at Monroe Elementary, a very sweet Mayume gave me a tour of the school. I recall lots of jumping rope and kickball during recess and in fifth grade, lots of teasing. To all the boys I teased then, Jon, Jeff, sorry; after all I was only 10.
Eighth grade at Eisenhower, I skipped out completely and took a tour with my parents around America. We saw just about everything historical. The ultimate road trip for a 13 year old. I was homeschooled without being stuck at home.
Cascade was hard to come back to. All the cliques had changed. I had to adjust.
The craziest thing in...Expand for more
my high school career would be that I tried a christian school my junior year and got myself kicked out. (Can't tell you why, don't want my kids to find out.) I ended up back at Cascade where I needed to be.
I had many good teachers and one bad one at Cascade. The bad one changed my life for the better, he prevented me from becoming a cheerleader. I am forever greatful.
The Everett Mall is where I met the most incredible guy, Solon. He was working at the Squire shop and I was working at Diamond Expressions jewelry store during Spring Break of 1990. We married in Aug. of '91 and started a family. We outlasted the companies we worked for and created our own company Barcode Resale based in Mukilteo. We are always having crazy adventures, such as our cover band Rewired. It's just part of our mid-life crisis I suppose.
This spring break, Solon is taking our oldest son, 15, on college visits in California. I'm taking our 13 year old son on the NY/DC eighth grade trip and our baby girl, 12, is going to visit family in Portland.
Our kids are almost grown and we have been able to live vicariously through them. They are truely amazing people.
Hope you are happy and doing well. I look forward to seeing you at the reunion.
