Saundra's Story

Looking back over my life, it has been very blessed. Not that there has not been ups and downs, like most of us, but as a growing Christian through the years, I felt God's touch on me, directing me here and there. I don't see how my career could have gone to the places it went without Him giving me an opportunity here and there. I worked at the Pentagon, in VA for 5 years. One day a Colonel, who was the Chief of Staff for a General, saw me. I knew nothing about it.....until I was called for an interview in that office for that General. Done! When it was time to move ahead to the next governmental grade, I interviewed for a General who was Deputy to General Westmoreland (we're talking Vietnam period here). I got the job. And after being at the Pentagon for 5 years, I decided I didn't want to be one of those ladies who spent their working life there (funny I was 27 and they were in their 40s). And so I left and the Lord provided a job on Capitol Hill, working for Congressman Quie, of Minnesota, a Christian and nice. However, his AA was Not. I took it about 2 years and decided to go back to Europe (where I had visited the previous Thanksgiving, Wiesbaden, Germany. This was now July 1970. When I began working their at Headquarters, U.S. Air Force Europe, the following January, I was first assigned to a very undercover intelligence group. But the front office called 3 times until I accepted a job in the Office of the General in charge of the operation...Expand for more
. The Chief of Staff I would be working for, outside of his office and the general, was having a terrible time keeping a secretary. He had been passed over for General, and so Not a happy camper. He didn't stay too long after I arrived, but the next Colonel who appeared, was none other than Sharon Comb's, husband's Sam's, half sister's father-in-law! Very sadly, Doug, Colonel Sell's son, died in a car crash, as he and Peggy were waiting the arrival of their first born....it happened in VA! Was I in that position by accident, I don't think so!!! So, I returned from Europe 2-1/2 years later, worked at law firms and associations, and then decided, I need to do something different.....so, I started my own Bookkeeping Service in 1993, out of my home,, and then retired in 2018. Good timing, I had moved back to VA from PA, where I lived in Greenville, PA, a friends' growing up home, and where she and her husband will ultimately retire to. I look back on my work life with a smile, and all the places it took me. Certainly Blessed over and over again by all of the opportunities thrown my way! Along the way did take care of my Mother for 8-1/2 years in my home and the last two she was in a nursing home because of needs....she had Alzheimers. Fortunately my brother, 75, me at 77 and Ann at 79, we have yet to show the signs other than senioritis! My Mother had it, her mother had it and my Mother's sister had it. AMAZING! I think that just about sums it up! ;o)
