Scott's Story

Scott's schools include Victor Valley High School. He later attended Butte College. He works(ed) at State Fire Marshal. After graduating I hung around and in July went into the USAF. July 1963, went to basic training. After basic training, I went into Air Police training at Lackland AFB Tx. In November I arrived at Dow AFB, Bangor Maine. Guarded the B-52 bomber, then went into USAF, Air Police K-9. I worked with Military Working Dogs. Volunteered to go to Vietnam, and they took me in June 1966. Served at a place called Phu Cat until June 1967. Went to Bernes Flat, Oklahoma for two years as a K-9 handler. I was sent to a special military unit called SafeSide. We were trained in special combat operations. ( This part omitted for security) I went to Beale AFB Ca and in 1972 was discharged from the USAF. I started working at the Oroville Police Department in 1972. I stayed until 1977 when I went to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Department as a resident deputy in a place called Covelo. While there I was also on the local Vol Fire Department and Ambulance Service. I went into the Army Guard as a Combat Engineer for four years. In Oct 1984, I started working with the California State Fire Marshal's Arson-Bomb Unit. In 1988 I went to the FBI Bomb School. g classes. In 1999, I was injured on the job, and on April 1, 2002, I was retired from the State of California and I had to leave the USAF. During this time I was married in 1973 in Oroville, California. and in 1981, we adopted our daughter who will grow up and go into the Army (10th Mountain) and ship to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 1999 we will be divorced. In 2000 I will remarry and we will travel to Moscow in 2004 and adopt a boy from Moscow. In 2008 I will be hired by the State as a temp investigator. I teach at the local fire and police academies and am still active. I continue to work with the Fire Engineering Division of the State Fire Marshal's Office. I still teach at the Fresno City College Police and Fire Academies. In 2013 I was President of the California Conference of Arson Investigators and continue to be active in the training of Fire Investigators statewide. On Oct 5, 2019, I completed my employment with the State of California. I now work as a private fire origin and cause investigator for a small company based in Southern California. I work in the area from Kern County to the Oregon border. (As of 3.4.2020) In March 2021, I will be part of the teaching staff of the only Fire Investigators Academy anywhere in the state or anywhere in the western states. Whenever I get the chance to see the school, I stop by. For those of you who do not get the chance, there have been a lot of changes.
