Scott's Story

It's amazing. Upon graduation, all I wanted to do is get as far away as possible. Who would have thought that I'd end up back 'home' in Willcox. I spent years living and working in other states, seeing what life could offer. It ended up offering a great life back in the place I wanted to get away from. The Fates can be a fickle lot sometimes. If I hadn't returned, I wouldn't have met the love of my life, and I definitely would not be as happy as I am now. Unfortunately my job is in Douglas, and after more than 8 years I can do the drive in my sleep, as I've tried to do several times with disasterous results. But the angel on my shoulder has kept me from doing anything more than soiling my underwear and causing minor damage which has been easily repaired. We live a few miles out of town where we keep our menagerie of livestock, dogs, and cats. There are days I definitely work harder at home than I do at work. The pay isn't as good, but the benefits are far better; a happy wife = a happy husband. After several 'careers', I finally found my niche in the medical field, and have been at it now 20 years. I hope it continues, as this dog is...Expand for more
too old to learn another trick. Guess I could always go back to my start at McDonalds if things fell through, but adjusting to the pay, and the smell of egg mcmuffins would take some getting used to again. But there seems no shortage of sick, injured, and people doing stupid things, so I believe I have job security. Retirement is a few years off, but I, for one, can't wait. I have a welding and fabrication business which should give me enough to do once retired. Between that, and the never-ending 'honey-do' list, retirement will be another full-time job. I realized just how old I'm getting; I was talking with a friend today and made the observation that you know you're aging when, in looking at the Obituaries in the newspaper, a lot more people in there are closer to my own age. Maybe I'll stop reading the paper for a while. I hope everyone who reads this is doing well, and their families are healthy, and all are happy. If you have a strange urge you can't supress, drop a line or two and let me know where you are and what you're up to. It's nice to catch up with people, and get the latest news. Hope your day is peachy, Scott Braden
