Scott's Story

Life Hello everyone. Hope things are going well for you. Here's what's happened in my life over the last 20+ years. I walked away from medical school in 1987 to start my own business in a totally unrelated field (my parents were not pleased about that decision, to say the least). 20 years later, life and business are great. I work 2 - 3 days a week, 30 - 40 weeks a year in a business that Gwen and I built from the ground up. I get to spend the rest of my time with my wife of 15 years, Gwen, and our 4 kids (David 12, Abby 10, Hunter 8, and Lydia 5....all as of 2006). We spend a lot of time up on the farm I bought a few years ago in northwest MO. We do a lot of ATV riding, fishing in the ponds, and hunting for deer and turkey. All in all I have a wonderful and blessed life that I am very thankful for. School I went to Lyndover Grade School from 1969 - 1975. I was then "bussed" over to Chaney Elementary for the 6th grade. I went back to Lyndover for Jr. High. I then went to Lutheran High South from 1978 - 1981. I graduated from Mehlville High Scholl in 1982. I went to Central MO. State my freshman year then transfered to SEMO. I graduated from SEMO 3 years later with a Bachelors of Science in 1986. I went to UMSL to work on my Masters in Biology and was getting ready to start Medical School in the fall of 1987, when I "accidently" got into the business that I am now. o the chagrin of my parents, I walked away from Med School (actually, there was no "chagrin", they were down right pissed off at me), and started my own business. College Freshman year at Central Missouri State at Warrensburg (82-83). Transfered to SEMO for my sophomore year and graduated in 1986 with a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies. Went to UMSL for my graduate work in Biology. Workplace I started in the financial services industry in January of 1987. I "accidently" got into the business while I was finishing up grad school and getting ready to start medical school. I wasn't looking for anything at that time, I was just offered a job out of the clear blue by someone who felt that I would be good at the financial business. I feel in love with the business and haven't looked back since. My wife, Gwen, and I built a fee-based investment advisory firm from the ground up. My firm manages the financial affairs for over 100 clients. We have clients from Maine to Arizona, and from Florida to Michigan. I also sit on the board of directors for Med-Interlink corporation in St. Louis and am currently serving as Chairman of the Board. Although there have been many business challenges over the years, the journey has been well worth it. I work an average of 100 days a year and get to spend a lot of time with Gwen and our 4 kids. All in all, I am very pleased and thankful for the many blessings that we have in our life.
