Scott's Story
Life
Well, many things have changed since the military. I met Lisa Shafarzek in 1994 when I was Honorably Discharged from the Marine Corps, we were married in 1996, had twins in 1999, now 8 years old [see photo, taken at Parris Island last year]. I work for the SUNY Albany Police as one of their Communications Officers, now for 11 years. I still play the trombone, and now have my first student, the son of my best friend Bill Mann.
School
School was great. Missed alot of my friends after HS, but it isn't easy being in the military and keeping in touch back home. Made a lot of sacrifices because of it, and lost contact with a few good friends for a long time till I came home from the Marines.
College
After the military, I attended the University at Albany. I figured I'd finally stay close to home, 6 years away was a long time. I received my BA in Fine Arts (remember the artwork in your yearbook, I finally put that talent to good use). I'm the first person in my family to attend and graduate college, which was very important to me. I made the Deans List one semester, which I was very proud of because I worked full time at SUNY Albany Police on overnights, and went to school all day; all while managing to see my wife sometimes when she wasn't working and going to...Expand for more
school. Imagine, when we finished our degrees, we finally had children...doesn't take a genius to figure that one out.
Workplace
I work for SUNY Albany Police as one of their Communications Officers; 911 Dispatcher, what ever you wish to call it. Good job, lots of work, STRESS X's 10, steady paycheck, funny cops, dark humor (picture Super Troopers movie). I'm one of the senior people in the police department, having been there 11 years now.
Military
After HS, I joined the Marine Corps and went to boot camp in November 1988, graduating in the Spring 1989. I attended music school soon after, and then played in the Marine Band at Parris Island until 1992 when I went back to music school.
My last two years in the Marine Corps I served over seas in Okinawa Japan where we did a lot of travel. Some of the countries I've been to: Australia, Malaysia, Kiribati (Prounounced Kiribas) was known in WWII as Tarawa a US Marine Battle in WWII; territories of US: Kwajalien, Guam; In Japan: Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Saesebo, Naha (Okinawa); and in the US all over the east coast. I played in the Uncle Sam Day parade in Troy when my unit from Parris Island Band performed in the parade.
I left the Marine Corps in 1994 as a Sergeant[E5] to come home and go to college.
