Scott's Story

Life Hey there, Scott Leightner here! Moved to Portland after High School and lived there for 7 or 8 years and then needed a break from the rain and gloom of the Northwest. So, I moved to beautiful and scenic Sun Valley, Idaho with the lofty aspirations of spending my days snowboarding; I have been here ever since. Soon after the move to Sun Valley I joined the Ketchum Fire Dept as a volunteer firefighter. I became an Engineer/EMT and ultimately landed the position of lead live-in at our rural Greenhorn Firestation. I spent 7 years there and participated in the growth of the station from a single building housing a brush/crash unit, ambulance, tanker, and 2 apartments to a 4 building station composed of 6 apartments and two bays containing a new Pierce fire engine, brush unit, ambulance, tanker, and haz-mat unit. During my time as a volunteer live-in I spent my days as an Executive Recruiter, that's a fancy way of saying "headhunter". The most exciting thing that has happened to me through all of this was re-meeting my lovely wife. Where did I meet my wife you ask? Why Classmates.com of course! Who is this lucky woman and classmate you ask? Why none other than Michelle Willows (now its Michelle Willows-Leightner, thank you very much). Michelle was living in Seattle at the time and I tricked her into coming down to Portland for the X-mas holidays 6 years ago. The rest, as they say, is history. We long distance dated for awhile and then I tricked her into moving to the Sun Valley area to live in the Firestation with me. Unbeknownst to her at the time I knew that I would marry her the moment I saw her in Portland. I popped the question during a lovely day in May while hiking and to my amazement she said yes. ot married in Kauai. We continued to live in the Firestation for a short time until we found out that Countrywide will give you enough money to really screw up your life, so we bought a great house in Hailey, ID (12 miles south of Ketchum/Sun Valley) We have two dogs and two cats (she brought the cats) and zero kids, although that is subject to change without notice. I continue to volunteer with the Ketchum Fire Dept and am really grateful for the extended family that is the fire service. Currently I work in the military program for ESS Goggles, the number one supplier of ballistic protective eyewear to the Fire, Military, and Law Enforcement arena. Michelle works for the Idaho branch of the Nature Conservancy as the Major Gifts Manager. I enable the people that destroy the planet, she enables the people that save it, its a happy medium. I have managed to trick her into some of the same sports that I enjoy - snowboarding, flyfishing, mountain biking, nordic skiing, and hunting (mostly upland game, which is a fancy way of saying bird hunting). ...except for the huting, she doesn't dig that action. Michelle has had some amazing experiences including teaching English in Japan, which was handy because we spent our first anniversary in Aomori, Japan visiting her best student and friend, Shoko and her husband Yas. If you ever get a chance to go to the Asia's, do it with someone who has been there before, that place is confusing, what with their different language and all. She's also traveled through China, Nepal, and Europe. I could only lay claim to Europe before I met her, we continue to lay plans for travelling to distant and not too distant places. We are both very excited about the upcoming reunion and can't wait to see you all!
