Scott's Story

Okay, so I will start with the vitals. After high school I went to Mississippi State for 4 years, got my degree, and decided I still didn't want to work yet. So, I went to LSU for 2 years to study political science in grad school. Still deeming myself to lack a sufficient desire to join the work force, I went to Miami to go to law school. First day of law school, I meet the must stuck up, arrogant, condescending girl I have ever known. By the end of the year, I realized all of my first impressions were wrong and that I couldn't live without her. We have been together ever since (btw, her name is Heidi). Following the 3 years of law school, Heidi explained that I was finally ready to go to work whether I realized it or not. We moved to Orlando. A year later we got married. We are now in our tenth year of marriage, so it is clear she is crazy. Life was about work and Heidi until 2 years ago. That's when, after three years and countless doctor visits, God finally decided it was okay to let me be a father. On January 18, 2006, my wife gave birth to twin girls (Isabella Noel and Madison Lee). Proving God was also kind, the girls look like their mother and not me. A year ago, we found out that Madison has cerebral palsy. Luckily, we found out early. She is a trooper like you couldn't believe. Not a wimp like me. She has physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy every week (speech twice per week). And she is doing incredible. Of course, all of...Expand for more
the credit goes to her mother and to her sister. While Izzie learns everything faster than Maddie, she also waits for Maddie and helps her learn it all. Silly story. Maddie has sensory issues that mean she has problems with transitions (going through a door, getting up in the morning, etc.). The other day, Maddie got "stuck" in a tunnel at the top of a playground set. Izzie just climbed up behind her and then you hear "You can do it, MadMad. You can do it." Maddie took her sister's hand and walked right out of the tunnel. She hasn't had a problem with that transition since. Without Izzie, I am not sure where Maddie would be. Heidi and I were willing to stop at 2 kids. With all the medical issues, we truly didn't think we could get pregnant again without more doctor intervention. God has a better sense of humor than that. In May of this year, my son, Joshua Everett, burst into this world. At nine months he was only 4 pounds lighter than the girls. He is tall and growing fast. I can't help but think that he is trying to catch up with his sisters. He recently started crawling, and he just follows the girls around. Fortunately, he also looks like his mother. So, that's the family Livingston. Life is full. Heidi is a shareholder in her firm and works as hard as anyone I know. I had my own firm, but grew tired of worrying about toner in the fax machine and paper for the copier, so I joined a larger firm. We are surrounded by family...and life is blessed.
