Scott's Story

Hi everyone! I’m sorry that I can’t be with many of you for the big event! Right now, I am hosting and supporting 11 Ukrainian refugees in 3 houses on two continents, plus providing partial support for several of my wife’s relatives and friends who are still in Ukraine. We also have an adult son with severe Tourette syndrome who requires a lot of care. I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I completed my BS, DDS and MS degrees and did research in biochemistry, endocrinology and embryology. In 1981, I moved to a town the size of Babylon in Wisconsin dairy country and opened a small orthodontics practice. I continued to volunteer in various social organizations and was voted Citizen of the Year for sponsoring and leading the high school Robotics team. I worked 94 hours per week for decades, but finally cut back when I married my true love in 2003. in every way and I am delighted to have her as my wife. Our son Alex was a joy to raise, but now suffers from depression and anger that his symptoms have continued to worsen to the point that he is friendless and alone. We do rent friends for him, but I think that he has caught on to the scam. I retired in 2010 due to prostate cancer, but was blessed with an outstanding surgeon at the Mayo Clinic and had a complete and uneventful recovery. Since then, we moved to Florida to help to care for my mother, then Uruguay where I got to use my high school Spanish, and then back to our home in Wisconsin. My six brothers are all in generally good health with a few problems developing slowly. We get together once every three years. I look back fondly on our years together at BHS and have often reflected on the truth of Mary Shapiro’s (who helped me to navigate an SEC issue a decade ago) yearbook saying - “It Seems to me a crime that we should age. These fragile times should never pass us by. A time you never can nor shall erase As friends together watch their childhood fly.”
