Scott's Story

Life Let's see . . . what would you want to know? Married 32 years (and joyfully counting!) to Carol Crump Paine. 10 kids (plus two beloved foster boys no longer living with us), ranging in age from 42 to 7. Okay, so that probably raised a question, didn't it? Our eldest is one of seven adopted children, and was adopted as a teenager. The next oldest, our first birth child, is 28. Feel better now? We live in Tampa, Florida. Carol, (BSN, MSN, ARNP . . . more initials than I can count) has been a stay-at-home mom . . . well, more accurately, a 'take the kids to the doctor, to the clinic, to the YMCA, to the museum, to the field trip, to the . . . mom' for many years. Our family mission is raising up children for the Kingdom of God . . . and helping others, where we can, to do the same. We are HUGE advocates for adoption. We don't work for any agency or organization . . . so feel free to ask a question, and we'll do our best to answer! My secondary mission is raising up the next generation of leaders as servants of the people, and helping the current generation of leaders where I can. I am on the faculty of the University of Tampa (Communicatio...Expand for more
n/Government and World Affairs). I also have associate faculty status at the Center for Urban Transportation Research at the University of South Florida, and write a blog and a regular magazine column for the Florida League of Cities. Mostly, I teach, lecture, and provide training (the last mostly in the area of local and regional public leadership). I talk to the press a fair amount, too, at least in my media market, because I have served in public office and have that 'PhD' attached to my name . . . and because I've learned to 'sound bite', which is a somewhat uncommon skill among academics. As a family, we are very active in our church, St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. We variously teach, preach, counsel, usher, and serve at the altar, as we are each called to serve. As of October 3, 2009, i am an ordained minister, a deacon in the Roman Catholic Church. Thanks for stopping by! Let me know you have been here; I enjoy renewing old acquaintances and making new friends. Visit me at Faceook (Scott Paine) for more current stuff. If you are really interested, you can follow me on Twitter (profpaine), too . . . but it's pretty boring stuff ;-)
