Christine's Story
Life
I married in 1995 to Shawn Sebo. In October of 1998 I had a daughter Delaney and then in late 1999 she became very ill and was diagnosed with MMA (Methylmalonic Acidemia) a rare Organic Acidemia where her body does not metabolize protein. In 2000 she had a metabolic stroke and has since been in a wheelchair because she cannot walk, but she has the mouth of an 8 year old. Then in January of 2005 I had a son Nathan who was tested at birth for MMA and was diagnosed within hours of being born. g-tube in her stomach so she can get the required amount of liquids her kidneys need to filter properly. Since Nathan was caught so early on he is doing great and is a typical 2year old. We have a regular life just like everyone elso. Shawn works for the Fire Department and teaches. We both Volunteer at Middle River Rescue, he is the Rescue Captain and I do not ride but am the Secretary. I stay at home with the kids and love it. It has taken me a while to update my profile. Having Nathan has allowed me to see that letting people know about us is more important because I want people to know about my kids and the importance of New Born Screening.
