Susan's Story

Life After San Marcos, I married Walter Root, who also attended San Marcos until March of 1975. We married May of 1979 after moving to Orange county June of 1978 so that I could attend school. I went to Orange Coast Community College to become an echocardiograph technologist. We have been married for 32 years and we have 2 girls (30 and 25 years of age). I have been working at Kaiser Permanente in Anaheim Hills (now in Irvine, CA) for 31 years. We live in a city much like Santa Barbara, called Mission Viejo-1 hour north of San Diego city. We own property (about 15 acres)in San Diego county near Julian. This is for our retirement, hopefully in about 5 years from now (2017). We also own 20 acres in Washington state. We went to England in June of 2009 for my youngest daughters wedding. She was just stunning and her sister beautiful as her maid of honor. We had sunshine the 2 1/2 weeks we were there and enjoyed every minute we were there. We are now in the process of buying a condo in San Juan Capistrano, CA. We are moving from a 4 bedroom house to a small 2 bedroom (no kids to justify such a big house). School My biggest crush for about a year was Kenny Plaut. If I could do it all over again, I would do band all over again. I had so much fun with marching band and...Expand for more
especially with half-times at football games, even if we did mess up that one time with the word "VOTE". Marching at Disneyland, Sea World and Magic Mountain was the best, though! My current age is 55. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be very old and close to dead. I was so completely innocent and naive. My best friend would tell you I'm very quiet and fun to be around, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as snobby due to my quietness. My oldest friend is actually Susan. She and I met in our neighborhood in Santa Barbara. We lived two houses away and we just clicked. We are one year apart, so we did go our separate ways in high school. My first job was at a motel maid, where I got paid minimum wage to make beds and clean bathrooms (YUCK). What I remember most about it is that it is very hard work and sure did appreciate the tips. Going to Sound of Music with my friend in Colorado. The movie just came out and my mom took both of us and she left us there, so we could be 'grown up'. During intermission we both walked out thinking that the movie was over. The door person asked what we were doing. He said that the movie is not over. I was frightened that we would not get back in and he told us that we could. Happy us!
