Shannon's Story
Life
I am an elementary school teacher and a Community Representative with AYUSA, a high school foreign exchange organization.
I am married and have a great 15 year old son, Tyler.
I have been living in Las Vegas, NV, for the past 12 years.
School
One teacher that really inspired me was Mrs. Dawson in the Marriage/Family, Child/Family class. When trying to figure out my major in college and career path, I thought back to the classes I most enjoyed in high school, then decided I would become a teacher.
I would do high school again if I could take the wisdom I have now. Anyway, I can't believe it's been almost 20 years---it seems like just a few---and we aren't really almost 40, are we?
College
I loved going to college and living in the dorms at Sonoma State University. Unfortunately, I only stayed for my freshman year. I went to Hancock for a year, the Cal State Fullerton for 2 1/2 more. I had an apartment with roommates in Fullerton,...Expand for more
but didn't get to have as much fun and meet as many people as I had when I lived in the dorms at SSU.
I was (and still am) a terrible procrastinator, so I was always up in the middle of the night, plunking away on my electric typewriter (and I thought I was high-tech back then) to get my papers done for the next day!
Workplace
Oh, I've had so many jobs in the past 21 years: Burger King, Arby's, Wienerschnitzel, K-Mart, Sweat & Surf (remember them in the Santa Maria Town Center?), Foot Locker, Cookie Cookery, Great Western Bank, elementary after-school childcare, Campfire summer day camp counselor, elementary school teacher (grades 1, 3, 4, and Drama), Camp Counselor for the La Jolla, CA YMCA, Assistant Camp Director at Camp Lohikan in the Poconos, PA, Assessor for the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards, AYUSA Community Representative, and "Romance Enhancing Specialist" with Slumber Parties [SlumberPartiesByShannonHale(dot com)].
