Shannon's Story
Life
Married for 14 years to my 10th grade high school sweetheart, Van Haas (GHS class of '84). We dated on and off for about 8 years before he popped the question and I agreed to experience wedded bliss! We worked, played and traveled for nearly a decade before running out of things to do; so why not start a family! ha ha. Lily is our priss, a self-proclaimed "expert" at everything. She's 4 going on 14....(oh you SO reap what you sow..!) Landry is our 'baller' sports fanatic and just turned a not-so-terrible 2. He's got the sweetest disposition, wows the ladies, and loves his mama! Those little monkeys are the greatest gifts in the world; they have taught me volumes! Especially, patience!
I really TRIED to finish college, but between job opportunities, travel and starting/running several different businesses, I threw in the towel after about 5 years of cumulative schooling! My career past is colorful and varied; modeling, commercials, radio and tv broadcasting...& never a dull moment. For the past 8 years I've managed a business I started w/ my best friend Vicki called Cloud 9 Spa Salon. It's been a blast. Our close to 50 employees serve about 1,000 customers a week.(Massage, facials, pedicures, manicures, hair design, spa bath & body treatments, etc...) Van is in medical orthopedic sales and has been since graduating college at UNF. He loves it. You need a joint replacement; hip, knee, etc. he's your guy. He's also quite a golfer for not getting all that much time on the greens...He recently won a tournement on the state and then nationa...Expand for more
l level that sent him to St. Andrews Scotland for a week in April '07...and he ended up winning the international title there too! Besides landing me, of course, he's a very lucky guy! lol...no really...he always wins things! Prizes, trips, a sportscar in Vegas, etc. I keep hoping some of his luck will eventually rub off on me. On a sad note, my mom passed away suddenly in July 05; it was quite a shock and I still can't really believe she's gone. My folks were married 40yrs and I'm only child; my dad has had a hard time but I keep encouraging him to get out and meet people! Besides orange & blue, Van and I bleed purple! As multi-generation Gainesville folks, our families are GHS alumni. Both his mom & dad, my dad, my grandma, my aunt & uncle, plus numerous cousins and various and assorted other kinfolk. I've been to the GHS reunions of his parents 20year & 30 year (missed the 40 year!) Along with Van's 10 & 20yr and our 10yr. WOW. Thanks to Larry Rentz for nominating me to put together the 20 year reunion that was held August 4 at the Holiday Inn West! ha ha. It got a little crazy in the days preceeding, but we had a great time and a great turnout regardless. G'ville has no professional "Reunion Planners" so I hired the nearest one out of Tampa. She was awful! The band she highly recommended was awful! (I sent them home early!) But luckily those werent big deals as people came to see eachother and catch up on 2 decades gone by! By the way, Curtis Elmore volunteered to arrange a 25-year reunion, so when the time comes....look him up! :-)
