Shari's Story

I spent my childhood in Washington Grove and Montgomery Village. My father had a dental practice in Gaithersburg. I attended Washington Grove Elem, Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village Jr Highs, and Gaithersburg High School.. After graduation I attended BYU - Hawaii for two and a half years studying English and TESL and working as an usher for the night show at the Polynesian Cultural Center. I loved Laie, and BYU-H, but felt drawn to come home and prepare to serve for a time as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. While preparing to leave for my assignment in Bolivia, I met a young man from Indiana, and knew he was the one I would marry. The feeling was mutual and so I changed directions again. We've been married for 35 years, have lived in Indiana, North Carolina (OBX), and several places in Utah, finally settling in a beautiful little town, near Provo, called Mapleton, where we have a small goat dairy/ petting farm for grandchildren and neighborhood kids. We've raised nine children (five birth kid...Expand for more
s and adopted 4 of the 27 foster kids who came through our home) and will have 15 grandchildren by Thanksgiving 2013. We are raising two special needs grandchildren, currently 6 and 8, of whom we have custody and I also help care for my 87 yr old mother with Alzheimer's, Happily, for my sanity, she is in a lovely assisted living facility just a few streets away. I am a lifestyle coach, am passionate about health, nutrition and family history/ genealogy, and love children, reading, gardening, goats and horses, Christmas and anything Hawaiian (especially poi and traditional Hawaiian music) When life settles down a bit, my friend and I will get back on track with a business we are starting which focuses on mixes for delicious, healthy, grain free, sugar free cookies, muffins, quick breads and brownies. Mostly, I spend my time noticing miracles that constantly surround us. I have been richly blessed. Life is full and good, challenging and meaningful, and brimming with amazing people who support me in my adventures and enrich my days.
