Shari's Story

Just popped in to see who has been added and was pleasantly surprised to see several new additions. I live in Maple Ridge and work at the City of Burnaby. I did retire briefly but found with most of my friends and family still working I was bored!! So I bit the bullet and came back to work at the City. Now I can afford to do all the things I like to do but sometimes now don't have the time. lol I belong to a Masonic group called the Order of the Amaranth and have been travelling around the US with some of the members to the annual conventions in the various states. In the last year I've been to Florida, Alaska twice, New Mexico, Oregon, Idaho and various cities in Washington. My next trip is to Arizona. I travelled to Britain in the summer of 2006 to meet up with my son, who was bumming around Europe. I spent 3 weeks with him travelling from London to Bratislava, Vienna, Prague and Amsterdam. I had a great time staying in hostels and spending time with a whole bunch of young people!! Then in the summer of 2007 a friend invited me to join her to visit her daughter in Korea. We spent 4 weeks in Seoul, Bejing, Bangkok, Chaing Mai. It was a wonderful trip. These two vacations and the little short ones around the US have given me an itch to see more of the world. I'm looking forward to taking a trip to Turkey next year. Its not planned yet, other than in my mind. I do love a good book and enjoy going to the movies. Recently I've been attending the occasional live play and am really enjoying that experience. Although I work for a city government I'm not at all political. I just go with the flow. I love to cook and entertain. My problem is it's difficult to get excited about preparing a meal for one. As a consequence I still prepare meals in company size proportions and have lots of leftovers. My children and grandchildren all live near me in 'Ridge. I have 4 little princesses to call me 'Nana'. My daughter, ...Expand for more
Natalie has one child, Mya who is thirteen. My son, Paul is dad to Isabelle, 18 months and step dad to Maddy, 13 and Kelsey, 8. They are both happily married. I feel quite blessed that they all live close so I see them regularly. I rarely get to the Island. In the years since my family relocated to the mainland, I lost touch with most everyone. I did get to the reunion in '87 but haven't seen anyone since then. I keep hoping someone will start working on another reunion. I'd be willing to help but it's a little problematic to do much from the far reaches of the east part of Maple Ridge!!! Well, I guess that's me. I would love to hear from some of my fellow 1967 grads. An update (April 2018): Its six years since I wrote the above...My 2 oldest granddaughters are now 19 and both are at university -- Maddy at UVIC and Mya at Capilano U. Kelsey, the middle one, is now in high school and the littlest one, Isabelle is enjoying grade two. I lost my son Paul three years ago. We are all still working our way through the loss. I'm off on a cruise next week - my friend convinced me it was a good idea to see the Panama Canal so I agreed to be her roommate for the trip. Our group is about 20 - mostly folks I know through work. Looks like a good time will be had. Another update - August 2018 First I will apologize to anyone who sent me a message but I didn't respond. Sometimes life gets in the way of life!!! The Panama Cruise was spectacular and the company was awesome...we had such a good time. Then in June I traveled to Tucson for Arizona's annual conference (Amaranth) and tried to enjoy the incredibly hot weather. "It's a dry heat" was the local response to our comments!!! In July my daughter and her husband celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary along with friends and family - that would be their daughter and me - on Kauai. Another great time. All 12 of us joined them while they renewed their vows.
