Sharon Gilbert:

CLASS OF 1962
Spokane, WA

Sharon's Story

Life My Spouse I met my husband when we moved to Plummer, Idaho the summer of 1961 when my dad became the pastor of a small church there. Denny was driving truck for a pole company and working on his family farm. He completed 2 years of auto mechanics at NIJC and the diesel mechanics training at ISU in Pocatello before we were married in Spokane in August of 1964. He restored a little '34 Ford pickup that we took on our honeymoon to Coulee Dam. My Pets Our last pets were an AKC-registered small blonde Cocker Spaniel named Mopsy that my husband gave me after taking our youngest daughter to college and our daughter's cat who needed to have the freedom our acreage offered her until a coyote got her. What is it they say about "freedom isn't free?" We've had a couple of horses, a pony, a few chickens when the kids were little, a couple of little dogs and two other cats over the years. My Kids Our oldest daughter graduated from ITT school of Business, worked as a secretary for Boeing and lives in Portland with her family. She has three children--ages 19, 17, and 15. The oldest now lives with us during the schoolyear and is attending Green River Community College which is about 2 miles from our home. Our son, an '89 WSU graduate lives in Puyallup with his wife, 11-year old son, and daughter who is almost 5. He is a credit supervisor for Millgard Windows and his wife is the office manager at one of our elementary schools here in Auburn. Our youngest daughter, a 1993 Whitman grad., lives in Bellingham with her husband and new little boy and teaches a Lang. Ar...Expand for more
ts/Social Studies block in a middle school there. My Job I teach elementary music to 16 classes of 1st through 5th graders here in Auburn, WA. I started teaching full-time in 1980 after substituting for 3 years. Retirement is getting closer. We live on 2 1/2+ acres that has just been annexed into the city of Auburn. This has been a wonderful place to raise a family and I look forward to retirement to spend more time in my yard and in church activities. We moved here from Portland in 1976 when my husband's company transferred him to be shop foreman. They since have closed, but, by then he was working for Super Valu repairing their fleet of trucks and then driving for them after retiring. He buys and sells 'fixers' and we have been looking for an attractive retirement site away from the busy I-5 corridor. After high school graduation, I attended a two-year sister school of SPU's in central Kansas, got married, and eventually graduated with a BS degree (which surprises no one who knows me) from PSU with my husband and 3 little children in attendance. I began substituting when our youngest started school and, after 3 years, began teaching elementary music full-time and earned my Masters degree in 1993. I was very involved in church music until the past few years and now enjoy listening and watching others. I would love to hear from former classmates. I saw a little Austin Healy Sprite last summer that jogged some strong memories and 'bump into' Shadle graduates every once in awhile, but none from the Class of 1962. Feel free to contact me. Sharon
