Sharon's Story
Life
Married to Dr. Leslie Shanoff, now Eliezer Shenhav. We moved to Israel in 1979 with our two children, Jonathan and Naomi. We are the proud grandparents of tfive grandchildren, Yuval , Amit,Asaf, Adam and Maya.
Sharon graduated from the University of Chicago in 1959 with a B.A. in Sociology, worked as a social worker for 5 years and then entered law school, receiving a J.D. in 1969.
Sharon practiced in Washington, D.C. and became a partner in the firm of Goldfarb & Singer until 1979.
In Israel, Sharon has become a women's rights lawyer, specializing in the area of religious divorce. She has been appointed to the Prime Minister's Commission on Status of Women and has been an expert member of the Israel government delegation to the United Nations Commission on the Status ...Expand for more
of Women for the last 7 years. Sharon is now the director of the International Jewish Women's Human Rights Watch and travels extensively in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and North America. She lectures widely on women's rights and religion. She has published many articles, chapters in books and appears regularly on television in Israel as well as abroad. Sharon is the only woman serving on the national Commission to Appoint Dayanim (Religious Court Judges), elected by the Israel Bar Association as their representative to this statutory commission.
Sharon is interested in making contact with classmates who are involved in human rights issues as lawyers or victims of infringement of their rights, especially in the area of discrimination against women in marriage and divorce.
