Sharon's Story

Life After I graduated from LSH, I moved to College Park, Maryland. I graduated with a B.A. in Art History in 1992. Afterwards, I moved back to Lima for a couple of years, then out to Arizona and had a blast in the desert for about 5 years. I worked as a correctional officer and started going to school again to change careers (Nursing). I also started getting into outdoor activities in earnest while living in Arizona, and that's how I met Dave. He taught me how to rock climb, ski, and hike in the back country. In 1999, we moved near Seattle, Washington to get a taste of the Pacific Northwest and to allow me to continue my nursing education. In between degrees (2002), Dave and I hiked 2168.8 miles, the entire length of the Appalachian Trail in 4.5 months. It's hard to believe that we've been together for 11 years already. We were getting ready to do another distance hike in the Spring of 2005 (The Pacific Crest Trail) but we found out that I was pregnant with Sierra two weeks before I graduated from UW. So the hike's been put on hold for awhile. Though I passed my boards and became licensed, I just haven't felt up to working as a new ARNP at the same time as I am learning all about parenthood. We moved to Grand Junction, CO about 3 months after Sierra was born. I needed to get out of the rain and now that we are back in the desert, I am in heaven. We both work at the regional hospital. I enjoy my part time work as an RN on the cardiac unit. My main focus right now is spending time with our daughter and working on our new home on 5 acres just outside of town. Though our house is finished we have no landscaping yet, so we are busy with that as our "estate" is pretty barren. I've seemed to turn into a real country bumpkin so to speak as I am more interested...Expand for more
in my compost pile and worm colony than just about anything else other than my family and of course outdoor adventure. Grand Junction is a wonderful place for people who like outdoor activities. We are less than 2 hours from several major world class ski resorts. There are about 5 national parks within 2 hours driving distance as well. We have a national monument right in town. Plus the Colorado and Gunnison River flow through here as well so great rafting is close. Did I mention that Moab was 90 minutes away as well....? Needless to say, we're taking Sierra lots of interesting places lately.... In terms of interests, I have many: ecofeminsim, nursing, science fiction, paganism, art history, banjo & harp, sewing, painting, goatfarming/ goatpacking, snowboarding, long distance hiking, cinema, classic literature, vermiculture, gardening & bonsai to name a few. Well, I don't see too many posts or profiles on this site but feel free to contact me, even if I don't remember who you are. I love to make new friends or remake old friends! I am looking forward to our 20 year reunion if we are having one in 2010! Sharon School Besides a brief hiatus between degrees, I think I've been in school for about 24 years, that's sick. College I have attended several Colleges and Universities besides the University of Maryland: Ohio State University, Lima Central Arizona College Mesa Community College (AZ) Gateway Community College (AZ) Tacoma Community College (WA) Univeristy of Washington (Tacoma & Seattle, WA) Workplace Currently I work as a registered nurse and I love it! I finally earned my Masters in Nursing in March 2005. This degree allowed me to become a nurse practitioner but I haven't worked as one yet because I've been too busy trying to be a good parent!
