Sharon's Story

Life Oh how much fun it's been since High School!! Everyone has to have a hobby....well, mine has been getting married. LOL Yep, three times so far and one poor soul just trying his best to be Ex #4. But, two children (ages 23 and 18), three marriages, five cats, two dogs, one bird and 27 years after High School, I'm single again (as of 2005) and not really looking to change the numbers or status anytime soon. I've worked various jobs since high school and finally found something I really enjoy doing. I'm currently testing the waters with Liberty Tax Service trying to decide if Franchise Ownership is for me. After working for 14 years with H&R Block, I started with Liberty Tax Service this year (2007) as a favor to a friend. More info on employment is in the workplace section of this Bio. My daughter, Karen, age 18, and from my 2nd marriage still lives at home with me. She's working with Wal Mart here in Winnsboro. She enjoys her job, but also has plans to return to school this August. She's having a bit of a rough time right now. She just found out that her paternal grandmother has breast cancer, has undergone one surgery and is expected to have another soon. My son, Carl, age 23 and from my 1st marriage, is now married to a wonderful girl, Jess, and they live in Milan MI. Carl and Jess just celebrated their 1st anniversary in May. They had a small wedding last year, just immediate family, at a quaint little wedding chappel in Milan and enjoyed a honeymoon in Canada. Now that they've gotten used to married life, they have enrolled in on line college courses and both work full time jobs with Plastech. No, fortunately, they do not have plans for any additions to their family right now. They are, however, planning to move back to SC in about a year. Life in general has been quite good for me. Done a little traveling, had a little excitement. Enjoyed various employment, meeting and rubbing elbows with different walks of life. Learned a few things along the way that no school can ever teach. Made a few mistakes, none I'd care to repeat, but none that I'd give up either. I've got two wonderful children and a daughter in law of whom I'm quite proud. Parenthood is one thing I know I would never change, it's constant challenges and rewards are worth everything one has to go through while raising children. My parents have been a great source of strength through many of my trials and rough times. I guess I've learned to appreciate their wisdom and quiet guidance more as I've gotten older. I thank God in Heaven that I've got such GREAT parents and was given the wisdom (finally) to experience and learn to appreciate what their age and knowledge have to offer. I guess that to date, the most devastating thing that has happened in my life was the loss of my paternal Grandmother 4/24/2002. That has to have been by far the greatest loss I have experienced in my life. Oh how I miss those weekends with her, hearing her stories of "the old days", sitting with her on her front porch til wee hours of the morning just listening to the sounds of the night, taking her and her sister shopping and seeing their eyes light up as we stopped for ice cream on...Expand for more
the way home. I'm thankful that my children were able to have her in their lives and be with her as much as possible. I hope they learned something listening to her stories as well. Oh how I still miss her! Well, I guess that's about all I can fit in this nutshell now. Not much else that anyone else would care to know about has happened. I'm still working to fine tune my life as it is today....but I guess we'll all be doing that til they put us in the ground. Hope everyone from the Class of 1980 is doing well and has had as good of a life as I've had so far! Feel free to contact me anytime through Ya hoo. You can e-mail me there, or find me on Ya hoo Messenger under srs012962. Let's catch up on the last 27 years! CHEERS TO ALL! Shari Workplace After 14 years with H&R Block, I made a switch to Liberty Tax Service. I started there this year (1/2007). I manage the office in NE Columbia in Magnolia Pointe Shopping Center. It was an interesting first year there to say the least. A lot of challenges for sure! Brand new office, all new clientelle, new policies and procedures to learn, new software. Not to mention we had to pull the grand opening together between December 15, 2006 and opening day of Jan 2, 2007! This included the buildout of the office space, ordering and taking delivery of the office furniture, setting up the computers, training a whole new staff, etc etc etc. But it was a lot of fun! I love the fast pace of tax time. So, to sum it up in a nutshell, I guess you could say I was doing a bit of everything in the office from management all the way to janitor. We're getting geared up now for year #2. I'll begin teaching tax classes in September. If you're interested, drop me an e-mail at srs012962 at ya hoo dot com! Try Liberty and see just how much fun taxes can be! I'll be hiring: Tax preparers, marketers, wavers etc. Get in touch with me...it could be the most fun you ever had on a job! In addition to Liberty Tax, I also have a few other jobs that occupy my time. I get to play Desk Clerk at Fairfield Motel in the off season for tax returns. It fills in some of the free time I try to avoid having. LOL. I also work in the accounting firm of Edward Michener CPA in Lexington SC. Ed is the Liberty Tax Franchise owner as well and a really GREAT guy to work with. So far my work background has included such "fun" jobs as: Administrative Asst., Medical Services Division of the S C Workers' Compensation Commission (15 years); Human Resources Secretary, Fairfield County School District; Office Manager, Heartland Industries; Claims Examiner with Corvel Corporation (third-party medical management company); Manager, H&R Block (14 years); Manager, Liberty Tax Service; Not quite sure what yet, Edward Michener, CPA; and Desk Clerk/Night Auditor, Fairfield Motel (4 years so far), and varioius other odd and end jobs that have been used to fill free time or avoid boredom. Some of the jobs were part-time second jobs or simply ones I held while in transition back into private industry after working for the State for so many years. I've been accused lately of being a total workaholic. Oh well, we've all got to do something fun huh?
