Sharon's Story
From high school I went to Jonesboro, Arkansas to attend school at Arkansas State University where I majored in Art. After I graduated I married Mark Hall who attended school in St. Charles for a while.
Mark was in the Navy, so we moved to Norfolk, VA, Millington, TN and then finally Oak Harbor, WA. Oak Harbor is about 90 miles, as the crow flies, north of Seattle and on an island. I had a daughter in '83 and then went back to school at Western Washington University for my high school art teaching certification. Once I had that I decided I wasn't finished with school or children. I applied for graduate school at the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle and had a son in '87. In '90 I graduated with a Masters of Fine Art in Metal Design from UW and began teaching for Skagit Valley College (SVC) in Oak Harbor. Both of my children were swimmers, so for the years they were in school if I wasn't teaching you could likely ...Expand for more
find me at a swimming pool. I was divorced in 2004.
At SVC I began working with the history instructor in coordinating trips to Europe with courses that we taught jointly. Becuase of this I've been able to visit Europe with my students and my children quite a number of times, which is not only great because I get to travel overseas, but because I've been able to see a lot of great art, which I imagine that some of you may recall that I had an interest in. ;-)
I enjoy what I do and I love the area I live in. There is water all around and a mountain range on my east and west. This is a gorgeous place to live. Both of my children are attending school in the state, so I get to see them with some regularity and my daughter just recently gave birth to a boy, my first grandchild. When I'm not teaching now, I'm trying to spend time with him. I get back to St. Charles every one or two years and think about many of you when I do.
