Sharon's Story
After graduating from high school I went to the University of Dallas, where I met and married Mike Perkins (a great Dallas guy) and earned a Bachelor's in Theology. After a few years in Fort Worth as a church education director and two kids later, I earned a Master's in Theology, also at UD. I've been a freelance religion writer for a few years and I've always wanted to teach in a university, so in 2004 after my in-laws passed away and my daughter started college at Notre Dame, I decided to go back to school to earn a doctorate, "better late than never!" I was admitted to the PhD program in Religious Studies at the University of Dayton so my husband and two kids graciously moved cross country to Ohio (not...Expand for more
a bad place to live, but it wasn't TEXAS!). I'm getting close to finishing all but the dissertation. My goal is to find a university/college teaching position after that. My husband Mike is a fundraising consultant for ministry groups serving Catholic university students and other nonprofits, and our kids are 36, 32, and 27. (the oldest is married, lives in Frisco, and made me a grandma). My dad, the proverbial "energizer bunny," died of pancreatic cancer in February 2008 and we really miss him. On the whole, I've been very BLESSED and am thankful to still be around!
UPDATE: We moved to Austin in August 2009., then north to Frisco in 2020, and in 2021 built a new home in Krugerville, near Denton.
