Sharon's Story

Life Of course those that knew me well knew I was born and raised here in NC and went to school down here until 11th grade at Asheville high.I started out at Claxton, then came Hill Street, South French Broad then Asheville High. I dont think any of them have their original names except for Asheville High nowdays though. My mother remarried the summer of my jr year and I was forced to move to Ohio.We moved into the old Chafin place,it was the blue house at the end of main.It broke my heart leaving behind all the people I had known all my life. After graduating I went into the Marine Corps, I called Col. T soon as I enlisted. He was like a proud rooster crowing. After I got out of the Corps I returned to NC, raised 2 children,Then my health began to fail. A few years ago I had a stroke which left me unable to use a good deal of my left side. It also left me with short term memory loss.I had started out having severe migraines and it went from there steadily downhill. I am a major collector of native american artifacts, especially things from the cherokee reservation. I have little dolls dating back to the 1800's.Wooden carvings out of mohagany and cedar. Hand made baskets and flutes made out of rivercane. Arrowheads that are handmade by local artists as well as pottery that are made here in our wonderful mountains. I enjoy hearing from former classmates that is those that care to write. I cannot travel as I am homebound now due to my numerous medical conditions. I do have a few pet peeves. f which being how disabled persons are treated in our great city.Secondly,in highschool at Asheville High,we were a very tight knit group of people. Everyone basically watched eachothers backs. I dont recall of one instance where there was really any fighting among people of our own classmates. Nor was it that way at Fairview High. We were close classmates there also. On August 6th of this year,I lost my best friend,my confidant, the one person I could count on thru thick and thin. The one person who loved me as I am.My husband passed away.I have been trying to get on with my life but the emptiness is so hard to bear. I always wanted to be a Marine when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a stupid idea. As it turns out, they were wrong, as usual.. I always wanted to be a Marine when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a stupid idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. I always wanted to be a Marine when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a stupid idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. Lately I have not had time to relax due to taking over the household budget, being a new single parent, and basically adjusting to being a widow. My number one hero is Jesus Christ for he died on the cross for my sins.My hero was my husband. He took a girl who had been so emotionally abused that she trusted noone and turned her into who I am today. We had 20 wonderful years together filled with love, trust ,gentleness and a kindness I had not known since I was a little girl.
