Sharon's Story

Going to Interlake was the best two years of my school life - wonderful campus, awesome teachers and good friends. Proud to be a member of the first graduating class. Slow start to life afterwards, but in time it all came together. Met an amazing fella working at Boeing, we married in '78 and have had one hell of a rollercoaster ride in the 45 years that we have been together. Boeing saw fit to move us from the Pacific Northwest to Wichita, Kansas - a SERIOUS adjustment required. No mountains in view, rolling prairie, tornadoes, constant wind and humidity. But plenty of positives as well - all sorts of ways to entertain ourselves! We have owned/flown gliders around the USA, me for fun, him competitively, sailing in 13' dinghys - so much more challenging than the bigger boats, and a ton of fun. When he took up long distance bike riding - centuries all around the midwest, including the Hotter'n'Hell 100 in Wichita...Expand for more
Falls, TX in August, Then he discovered the week-long tours in the Rockies where I sagged and again, we were both together and at the same time on our own. The ULTIMATE challenge for him turned out to be a ride called the Triple Bypass - 120 miles from west of Denver to Avon, over 3 passes, 60 miles of downhill, 2 miles flat and 58 uphill - high spot (literally!) was Loveland Pass at 12,000 feet..... Always fun! After Parkinson's Disease stripped the ability to fly, ride bikes and sail from him he went back to his first competitive sport - racing karts at the track near Spanaway. In time that too had to be left behind.... When he could no longer swallow a feeding tube was required, and 11 months later I lost the love of my life to the Parkinson’s. It is easily the ugliest disease in existence. I am sorting myself out, trying to figure out where I want to live, what do I want to do with myself. Being a widow sucks.

Fallout from the move continues…. Finished painting my bedroom at last, moved the head and footboards in, then grabbed the rails. They are not the right ones! Not even close. Went to a local furniture shop and showed them p
