Sharon's Story
My Life:
I was born on May 7th 1955 in Douglas, Arizona at the old Phelps Dodge Hospital. Its now a juvenile probation office. I went there to do intakes on juveniles crosssing the border into the US for drinking and drug violations when I was a juvenile probation officer.
Soon after my birth my father went back into the Air Force and we moved around the country a lot, spending time in Sacramento CA, Minot ND, and Tucson AZ. Finally he retired after 21 years and we wound up living in Silver City, New Mexico. I graduated from High School in 1973 and attended WNMU for three years. I was pre nursing but got married instead. Four kids ( two boys, two girls) later and while living in Orem Utah-I became divorced and continued to raised my children as a single parent. In 1985 my parents, sister, and I moved to Sierra Vista, AZ. I finally acquired my Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science in 1996. I met my second husband Gael Duckworth-a corrections officer-I was doing Juvenile Probation at the time.
After three years of being a probation officer, I quit in 2001 to pursue my Master's Degree in Social Work at ASU. I graduated in 2003 with Honors and started working at COPE Behavioral Health as an intake and assessment worker and then counseling. I qui...Expand for more
t COPE in April of 2005 to work at the Casa Grande Regional Medical Center as a medical social worker. After spending a very stressful year in a fast paced job I left the hospital in Casa Grande and began working for Trinity Hospice as a hospice social worker. After working as a hospice social worker for a year and a half I went to work for the Army at Fort Huachuca, AZ doing therapy for active duty soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanstan as well as their family members. Finally in July of 2008 I was hired by the Reno VA. This has been my dream since graduating from ASU. I love helping veterans. I now coordinate their Community Nursing Home Program and find the work challenging and rewarding. Just an update. I am now a SW Supervisor in geriatrics. And I now have eleven beautiful grandchildren. Boy am I getting old. :)
Just a quick update I got the opportunity to transfer through the VA to The Biloxi VA. really love it here in MS.
I would love to get my PhD in clinical psychology and am giving it some serious thought. Well forget this one getting too old and it's just too darn expensive LOL.
Best memory- Riding from Sierra Vista Arizona to Biloxi, Misissippi on the back of our 1996 Harley Davidson Road King.
I hope all of the class of 1973 is doing well!
