Sharon's Story

Life Hi to any of my old classmates. Our 40th reunion is coming up in 2003. Where has the time gone! I am happy, married, and have 2 sons and 5 grandchildren. I work full time for a courier company here in Florida as an Office Manager/Accountant. I am working on my Business Degree at night school and if I do not goof off will finish in January 2003. I have lived here for 21 years and would love to move back to Illinois to the country. I lived on a 600 ac. farm in Illinois for the first 18 years of my married life. We raised corn, soybeans, cattle, hogs and horses. That was the best time of my life. I had a garden, canned, drove tractors etc. I entered my canned goods in the fair and came away with a lot of blue, red, and white ribbons. I won Best of show 6 years in a row. I also had a small cake business making wedding, anniversary, and birthday cakes by special order. In my spare time, ha, ha, I wrote a weekly newspaper column for the local paper and went to Washington, D.C. 3 times to lobby for the Farm Bureau. I have always been so glad I was able to raise my 2 sons in the country and be a stay at home mom for them. I will more than likely work another 7-10 years, the Lord willing, than retire and do some things I love. I love to write poetry which I started doing about 10 years ago on a whim. I have had 2 poems published. I also started to do research on my family tree about 2 years ago and became way to absorbed with it. I had to back off for awhile and just recently started again. I have traced my paternal side back to 1736 and my maternal side to 1748. I also love to collect paperweights, and have 186 at last count from all over the U.S.A, and England and Scotland. I have had a good life, with some ups and downs, along with losses of loved ones along the way, the latest was my Dad a year ago. I would love to hear from any of my old classmates and hear what you have been up to. 40 years is a long time to catch up on! Sharon Update-- As of September 2004, my husband and I have sold our home in Florida and have moved to Sheffield, Illinois near my 2 sons and their families. We are retired for now, but who knows what life has in store in the future. I am so enjoying retirement and being able to do so many things that I have put on the back burner for so long. I did get my business Degree, that was a lot of hard work. I became a great-grandmother in April 2004, talk about feeling old. I am still writing...Expand for more
poetry and have 122 at last count. I have now started writing what I call poem stories and have written 4 of these so far. They are stories for children and I have a publisher interested. I am also entering all of my families old recipes in my computer so I can make a book for family members. I also have boxes and boxes of photos from as far back as the late 1800s up to the present day that need to be sorted, dated and named. Doing my family tree as taught me a lesson about family information and photos. Almost all the old pictures I have received from long ago, have no dates or names on them. Sometime you are lucky if you find an older member of your family that can give you some information about the people with the funny clothes and hats in the pictures. I do not want my sons to have to try and figure out this mess. So that is another project on my horizon to do. I know when I turned 60 I decided it was time to enjoy my life and my family a lot more. No one ever had an inscription on their tomb stone that said " She wished she would have worked more". So my old friends, take a little advice from an old classmate, take time for your self at this stage of our life. This is not a dress rehearsal, there are no do overs. Down size or what ever you need to do, material things are not worth more than family, your health or your sanity. You do not get into heaven any easier if you drive a Lexus instead of a Chevy. I hope you all are healthy and happy and I would love to hear from more of you. Sharon Update - January 2009 Just to let everyone know that I have lost my beloved husband of 26 years in December 2008. He passed away from a massive heart attack. I have not only lost my husband but my best friend. Please all of you live life like there is no tomorrow, live it to the fullest. Always tell your loved ones how much you love them, as my husband and I always did. Stay safe and happy. Your old classmate, Sharon Hi everyone - UPDATE 2/2/2010 This to let you all know that my mother passed away January 20, 2010. Some of you that were in my class have parents that went to school with her. Her maiden name was Ardis Markgraf. She was 87 years old and had a good life except for the last 8 years she had Alzheimer's. My father passed away in 2001. Bless all of you and I think about the good times at Culbertson, Washington Jr. High, and J.T. What fun times, and we thought were had worries then, ha, ha. Be safe, Sharon
