Sharon's Story
In the fall of "65", I entered Eastern Michigan University as a freshman. I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Special Education in the summer of "69." I promptly found a teaching job in East Detroit School District. I married my husband in April of 1970, just three weeks before he headed to Viet Nam. I went back to live with my parents in Swartz Creek and worked for the next year at Bendle Schools. When Bob returned from his tour of duty, we were shipped to Germany for a year. It was a wonderful time to travel and see the sights of Europe! We returned to the United States and started our family. We have been blessed with three beautiful children, two sons and one daughter. I took time off from work to raise our children and during that time, my husband finished his college degree and we headed to Lapeer, Michigan for a job. We were fortunate to be able to raise our children in this lovely rural community. I eventually returned to teaching,worked on my Master's in Educational Leadership & landed an Elementary Principal's job for the last year's of my career.
Thoughout our working years, we have been blessed to be able to do a fair amount of traveling. We have visited all but about 6 states. My favorite place to visit is Hawaii! Our daughter attended BYU ~ Hawaii for her last two years so we were able to visit her and fe...Expand for more
ll in love with the Polynesian people. We have since gone back a couple more times to visit more of the islands.
My husband & I are now enjoying a wonderful retirement! Our children all live out of state so we spend a good 5 months visiting them. Our oldest and youngest live in Henderson, Nevada, just south of Las Vegas. Our middle child lives in Portland, Oregon. We spend the winter in Henderson with our daughter who is single and fly up to see our son, daughter-in-law and grand-daughter at least twice while we are there. We are in the midst of planning our oldest son's wedding for October ~ 2010.
We spend the other 7 months in Michigan between our home in Lapeer & a family cabin south of Grayling, Michigan. We love to kayak so this schedule puts us by the water for most of the year.
We are looking forward to celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary in April of 2010. Trying to decide where to travel to make it a memorable event but haven't decided yet.
I send a personal hello to all the 1965 graduates since I still have so many fond memories of my high school years. I especially remember some very wonderful teachers, Mr. Gallogly, Mr. Hooper, Mr. Townsend to name a few.Too bad the economy has gone so sour and Beecher High School is now closed. Would love to see a Class Reunion which included multi-years, possibly 1963-1968!?
