Sharon's Story
Updated December 2009
Life
One year after high school I married and had two children. Eighteen was much too early for marriage, at least for me. I'm still probably not very mature for my age.
In addition to living in Portland, I've lived in Roseburg and Bend, Oregon; Great Falls, Montana; Ferndale and Bellingham, Washington. As of last December I've returned closer to home. I'm now living in Vancouver, Washington.
For the last 15 years I've been single.
My two boys live in the Portland/Vancouver area. I have eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. I have four step grandchildren and fsix step great grandchildren. That's a huge crew considering I only had two boys.
School
School always seemed to be the last place I wanted to be until my senior year. I guess if I had it to do over again, hopefully I would spend more time studying. Back then I did my homework at the last minute, consequently my grades were never more than average.
Mother apparently thought I was a bit of a tomboy so she sent me to Charm School and then Modeling School my senior year. I don't think it took!

ogether. We're still good friends and go to class reunions together.
Workplace
I was Activity Director for Parkway Chateau Retirement Residence here in Bellingham from 1987 until retirement in 2008. It was by far the most rewarding job I have ever had. The residents constantly boosted my ego and made me feel good about myself. I enjoyed the staff and management that I worked with. One of the best parts of my job was that every day was different. In addition to planning and executing the activities at the Chateau, I also drove the bus a couple hours every day. That got me out of the building for awhile.
Most of my previous work had been secretarial except for a year driving a semi truck. That was a lot of fun but I don't care to do it again.
I'm sure enjoying retirement.
I spend a great deal of time working on my family history. I have been doing this since 1965, but with the internet, it has changed my research habits greatly. It has allowed me to increase my records to over 26,000 individuals. I hated history in school, but this makes history come alive to me.
I live in a senior apartment complex. I manage to find time to play cards with friends nearly every day.
