Sharon's Story

Life Married, my son James lives and works in Beverly Hills, CA; I have 2 stepchildren. I still sing, my greatest experience since singing for Sunrise Service at Olympia State Capital was singing National Anthem at a Milwaukee Brewer/Kansas City baseball game and I sing for POW/MIA ceremonies. I'm a Vietnam Era Veteran of the US Army and was the first female in US Army to recruit men into the service and I serve as President of my local chapter of Vietnam Veteran's of America and am running for Regional Director of our State Board of Vietnam Veterans of America. I am also chair of a Mentoring Committee which is sponsors a program for Nam Era Veterans and their families to serve as mentors for the Iraqi and Afghani military personnel, veterans and faimilies. I am also Chair of the Mentoring Committee at the Vietnam Veterans of America Wisconsin State Council and serve as a delegate representing my Chapter and State at local and national events. I served 8 yrs Active Duty and 2 yrs in Wisconsin National Guard. I travel every year to Washington DC for Veteran's Day and now that I finally bought a 2004 1200C Custom Sportster hope to ride on Memorial Day in DC for Rolling Thunder in 2006. School School, where do I begin? Most of us went to school together from the beginning. My younger years at TGS later to become MTS were great in the beginning, then an event happened in my family's life that changed everything to a color grey. No details necessary in a small town everyone knows and yes, "kids are cruel". Good times some, bad times lots, 20 year reunion was awesome and I had homecoming and prom all rolled into one. Mr Martin and Mr Seegers were my favorite in high school, Mr Martin forced me to excel and come out of my shell and taught me that my loud voice wasn't a negative but a positive and I use it still today to honor those who serve our Nation both past & present. I loved watching the football games and attending pep rallies and marching band. Mark and others you were our heros. Remember the day of the earthquake you could literraly see the football field heave and roll. Most memorable day, besides the day Mom didn't show up to pick my sister up from kindergarten was the day Kennedy was assassinated. Gym, Miss Burke and her eyes filled w/tears. My first crush, he never knew, Alan Jennings. I know we all miss him so. I visit Duane at The Wall each year for the past ten. Would I do it all over again, yes, a little different in some ways; I wouldn't just stand in the corner frowning or crying. But, then again I would not be where I am today if I didn't have the experiences I did in school. But, Dave weren't the worms in my lunch a little overboard?????? Miss you all, glad we are grown and look forward to s...Expand for more
eeing you a our next reunion. Sharon Workplace Work started out in Olympia many years ago at the Washington State Credit Union, then marriage and working at Insurance Company of North America in Indianapolis on "The Circle". Hopping off the bus to argue w/the Nam War protestors I would frequently show up late to work. But, there was always something I wanted to do. Be in the Army after my son's father returned from Nam things were not the same, I divorced moved back to Washington State and then to Sacramento, CA where my brother was stationed after he returned home from Nam. I worked as a Catering & Sales Manager for a fourteen story hotel which at that time was large. It was right across the street from the State Capitol and Ronnie Reagan was Govenor. He held all of his events at our hotel and I had the honor to make his arrangements and make sure things went smoothly. But, still the lingering desire to serve and "do my part". Eventually, I quit listening to others and I enlisted in the US Army to serve 8 years on active duty. I excelled, I loved it and I received an award as "Outstanding Young Military Individual" and am registered in the Library of Congress. I believe I owe my passion for the military to Mr Martin and the First Methodist Church I attended when going to high school. I started singing solos then and sang at Tillicum for the WWII & Korean Veteran's while others in our class did interputive dance. Remember? Ater the military I worked in Logistics and purchasing. Then in the early 90's I received my realtor's license and now have a Broker's license. Real Estate is my second passion to the military and I have excelled in this area and this year realized an income of six figures, which I am in awe at. Not bad for a gal from Tumwater, WA who only graduated from high school. I manage real estate assets for Bank One Trust Company, a JP Morgan company and am also Managing Broker of Banc One Realty in the State of Wisconsin. I feel fulfilled and look forward to retirement in a few years. Military I am a Vietnam Era Veteran, I took Basic Training at Ft McClellan, AL and enlisted while I lived in Sacramento, CA. After Basic I went to Ft Ord, CA for AIT and challenged my AIT course. Instead of attending classes they made me an acting buck sgt and appointed me barrack sgt. I became permanent party at Ft Ord as a 71C stenographer to a LTC. I took part in the hometown recruiting program and when I returned to my duty assignment from AIT I went before the Recruiting Board and became a Recruiter with only six months in the Army and the rank of PFC. I was then stationed in Milwaukee, WI as a WAC Counselor and given E5 stripes but not the pay or the rank. I was the first female to recruit men into the US Army.
