Sharron's Story
It has been a very interesting time since I left Bennett. I started school at Millard Fillmore Hospital school of nursing but decided it was not what I wanted. Transferred to UB as a full time student until I was burned in a sunlamp incident (don't ask) and had to leave school.
I then went into the work force as a customer service rep for what was then Bell telephone. From there I went to work in a doctors office at his front desk. He was a nasty old man with a drug habit and I left there rather quickly. Off to work at Children's Hospital in their rehabilitation unit which services kids with mental and physical disabilities. Worked for a number of well know doctors, instituted a camping program for these children, and began a library with all the journals that were received. During my time at Children's I got married to a really great guy and continued to work until shortly before our daughter was born. Moved to suburbia and became a stay at home mom. A few years later our son was born and I never returned to the work place.
However, I was very involved with their elementary school and volunteered there every week as well as being room mother for every teacher they had. With a frien...Expand for more
d we developed an "absence call in" program after attending a meeting about missing children. This way if a parent did not call in and say their child was not going to be in school and the child did not show up we knew something was wrong.
At the middle school level my kids didn't want me as visible so I only volunteered for selective outing.
High school brought me the President position of Williamsville Music Boosters and I served 3 terms even after my youngest had graduated.
Now my daughter is married and living in S. Florida. We have two wonderful grandkids one is 6 and the other almost 11. Jen is a gifted/talented teacher in the Broward County school system. Mike is teaching 6th grade math at Iroquois Middle school
My hubby has been retired for many years and we enjoy traveling - mostly to FL - but other places as well.
I now keep myself busy as a volunteer. 35 year member of Girl Scouts, Literacy reading program, Thanksgiving project and also at the Family Justice Center.....a place where abused women/children can go for help. And of course now working on planning our 50th class reunion.
I would love to hear from some of my classmates and catch up on what they have been doing.
