Shawn's Story
Life
I graduated in 1996. I joined the Navy on February 18th 1997. I went up the ranks from an E-1 to an E-6 in the 9 years I have been in. I am currently a Fire Controlman Petty Officer 1st Class Surface Warfare Qualified. My official title is FC1 (SW) Ruch. I have gone to 6 schools in the Navy. Right out of boot camp I went to Basic Electronics Technical Core. Then I went to Fire Controlman "A" School and FFG (Frigate) Display school. I have also been to an Alcohol and Drug prevention course, which is mandatory, called Prevent 2000. I am scheduled to gone to Leadership Training school in March of this year. I have received a letter of Commendation for my serving on board the USS Elliot (DD-967) from August 1999 to July 2000. I received USS Elliot's Junior Sailor of the Month for the month of Sept. 2000 and Junior Sailor of the Quarter for the 3rd quarter of 2000. on of 12 boats my boat belongs to. I received my first Good Conduct Medal on 18 Feb. 2000, and my second one on Feb. 18th 2003 and my third on Feb. 18th 2006. I got Surface Warfare Qualified on June 26th 2000. I reenlisted on Oct. 1st 2000 for another 6 years. I received my first Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal on May 18th 2001 and my second on July 2nd 2004. I was stationed on the Elliot from Dec. 7 1998 to June 22nd 2001 in San Diego CA. I then was on shore duty in at Dam Neck Annex in Virginia Beach from July 31 2001 to July 9th 2004. I went to CV/CVN (Carrier/Nuclear Carrier) computer peripheral class and graduated on Dec. 9th 2004. I have been stationed on the USS Kennedy for the last 2 years. I have a few months left in the Navy and when I am done I will be working for Samsung Austin Semiconductor. I will be starting in DEC 2006. I am working on my bachelors degree in Technical Management and will have it completed next June. I am married and have a wonderful 7 year old little boy and a very precocious 2 year old little boy.
