Shawn's Story
After BRHS graduation in 1977, I went to PSU for 3 years before transferring to University of Arizona. Went to Arizona expecting to finish my BS but instead worked fulltime to support myself and boyfriend. Ended up joining the Army to finish school and got married just before leaving for bootcamp. Ended up in Fort Sam Houston, TX and eventually Fort Belvoir, VA. Had my first son, got out of the army , and separated from my exhusband. Re-enlisted a year later and ended up at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in a respiratory research lab. Finished my medical technologist certification and met my current husband, had my daughter, and got out of the army after serving 8 years. rking in clinical microbiology lab and wanted to see other side of patient care so got my RN. Now I am a critical care nurse working in Medicine ICU at University of Kentucky Medical Center. I get to take care of some of the sickest patients in the country at our facility. (People in KY don't take very good care of themselves!) My youngest son born here in KY is now 19. My oldest son is 26 and married and expecting his first child (my first grandchild!) My beautiful daughter is 22. I have much to be thankful for and after a rough start, my life has been very blessed.
When my husband and I retire, we may just move up to PA. When my brother, Rick, passed away we bought his parcel of land on Tingley Lake Road so we have a site to build that retirement home we have been dreaming about...
