Shawn's Story
After graduating from Blue Hills in 81, I went right into the Air Force, having already joined in 1980 in the Delayed Entrance Program. From there I traveled all over Europe, the Mediterranean, and Persian Gulf Region in Southwest Asia. I served for 23 years, 6 months from 1981-2004. I was a Telephone/Cable/Antenna/Radio Installation and Repair Technician and Ground Supervisor, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. Furthermore,. its I was assigned to fell under the major command of Air Combat Command. Also,because of exposure to concussion waves from land mines, and UXO's over the years; as I was required to splice communication cable in areas of unexplored ordnance and mine fields, my optic nerve, and corneas were damaged. I also ended up with Glaucoma. I am now legally blind and am President of the Blinded Veterans Association Nebraska Regional Group. I live in Bellevue Nebraska now because I retired from the Air Force at Offutt Air Force Base .south of Omaha Nebraska.
