Sheila's Story
Sheila Lynn Anderson Roberts is a life long resident of the City of Camden, New Jersey. She is the widow of the late Stuart L. Roberts, Camden City Police officer killed in the line of duty in 1976.
Mrs. Roberts's accomplishments and commitments are reflected in her personal life; she is the mother of three and grandmother to twenty one children. Thirteen of her grandchildren are adopted residents from the City of Camden. Mrs. Roberts became a foster parent to serve those youth in the City of Camden, who were most vulnerable and in need of someone to believe in them. She volunteers her time, talent, treasures and services to various community events, such as contributing food for food banks and homeless shelters, providing clothing for the needy and generally supporting the efforts to improve the lives of those in financial straits and/or homeless. Mrs. Roberts is a strong advocate for Public Safety in the City and is well known for her advocacy throughout the Police Department.
She is a champion for youth programming and employment opportunities for residents especially the youth of the City of Camden. She is a City gardener and has been a member of the Camden City Garden Club for over twenty plus years. As a member she advocates for community gardening as a catalyst for neighborhood and community development throughout the city of Camden. She has been recognized for helping to securing a grant for two million dollars that brought an urban canopy of trees to the City of Camden through the New Jersey Tree Foundation. She also help secure a seventy five thousand dollar award from Home Depot in 2008 for the City of Camden to provide addition trees to help mitigate the air quality and provide additional trees for neighborhoods that have few or no trees.
Sheila is a dedicated and faithful member of St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church, where she demonstrates stewardship, she served as a previous Parish Counsel President and continues to serve as a current Parish Council member. She also served as a coordinator of the Hosanna Prayze youth choir and coordinator for Angelic Mime and Praise Dance Ministry.
