Sheldon's Story

Lost interest in school during first grade. After I learned to stay within the lines with my crayons I wanted to move on, and was told to shut up and color dammit. Might have been the valedictorian, ended up being contradictorian. After graduating in the top 93% of our class, I went into the Army. For a time was considered for West Point Prep at Ft. Monmouth NJ but the HS transcript wasn't all that promising. Four Article 15s and one court-martial later I got my honorable discharge. Went from job to job for many years until I got the bright idea to go to college. Made my mark on Bridgewater State (I think the stain is still there). Wrote one article for the paper there and it appeared on the front page. I also appear in the centerfold, a fact which can be substantiated by a visit to the BSC librarian, or just google The Comment, May 13, 1985. It's a 17 page document so be patient. While there I was elected to student government. Forced to abdicate due to academic probation. Key player in first Greek Week. Went to a chess tournament at American International College in Springfield, Mass., where I placed second in the 65th Annual Western Mass and Connecticut valley Open, in 1985. Apologies to the multitudes at BSC whom I managed to offend. Got sober in `92, and still am to this day. Still look back fondly on the keggers at the sand pit. Although I have to also state that several frat brothers would be well advised to stay out of my sight. Still. They know who they are. One lived in northern Vermont, last i knew. Hi, Jeff. My parents wanted to sell their house in `93, but several potential buyers were put off by the difficulty exiting the driveway. So, I took on the town and persisted until a No Parking zone was created in front of the business next door. House sold, problem solved. So, yes, you CAN fight City hall. Diagnosed in `98 as depressed, subsequently promoted to bipolar. Recently got the borderline label. Explains quite a bit, don't you think? Does it make me a bad person? Fast forward to '01 when I met my lovely bride-to-be. In '05 we were divorced. I was informed of that fact six months later. Real sweetheart. I worked for Enterprise-Rent-A-Car here on Long Island for 10 years. I've been able to take time off here and there to travel to Chicago, Philadelphia (just a four hour drive), Atlanta, Baltimore, and Tampa/St. Pete just to catch a Sox game. My bucket lists consists solely of seeing every Major League baseball park and stadium. Except Miami, unless I get my passport renewed. The rest of the time I'm so poor that I can't always pay attention. I contacted a number of classmates when Plymouth Carver High School was in the process of being demolished to advise them of same. I got my two bricks, dammit. Suggested school department sell said bricks with certificate of authenticity. Have seen the new high school. and was very impressed. That makes two times the Town of Plymouth has screwed up and made a good decision regarding future growth. The first time was the library, just as mind-boggling considering the track record the Board of Selectmen has amassed over the years. But- don't get me started! There you have it. All the news I see fit to print. Will gladly take your calls a 631.605.1374 if they're not collect (j/k). Number is still valid as I write this update (05.18.23) . Sunday, Oct 10, will mark the 29th anniversary of my getting...Expand for more
sober. Had open heart surgery February 9, 2021. Had to go to the hospital to get covid, and pneumonia. Go figure. Working p/t as a delivery boy for Parts Authority in Hauppauge (pronounced hop pog) NY for the last five years. Tried retirement for two years and it was so enjoyable I decided to go back to work. As I write this I am kicking back shaking my head at the idiocy around me here at the local VA as I continue to wait to be admitted for gall bladder surgery. Worst clusterf*** I've ever seen . And I've ever seen my share. I can't believe how popular I have become lately with people so suddenly interested in me. And my fan club continues to grow. People that never gave me the time of day come back time and time again to be fascinated by me. The last reunion I went to was quite informative to put it nicely. I struck up a couple of conversations with people I hadn't spoken with since high school show them I'm not the same asshole I used to be. All I got out all that confirmed what I have suspected for decades. And that was that there are still a number of 18 year olds masquerading as adults. The last time I pointed out the fact that people who have been MIA for the last 40 years or have their reasons. For that I got dropped off not only from any Christmas card lists but the mailing list. QED. Enough ranting for today. Maybe I'll be less hostile after I get home from the surgery I am impatiently waiting for. F*** the bad grammar. Went to my second Opening Day at Fenway this year. Dropped 200 on a box seat. My advice on that? Don't. Sardines have more elbow room. I was at Gillette (for the first time) on New Year's Day to see the Pats beat the Dolphins. Great end zone seat. Went to Wrigley Field last July to see the Sox there. My advice to old people with heart problems? Don't visit the Midwest in summer. High heat, high humidity. Spent my sightseeing day in my hotel room. Although I did get to see the Biograph Theater, my main goal of seeing the Gallagher house remains unmet. I will pick a cooler time to hit Milwaukee and then drive south to Chicago where I can see the things I wanted to last year.. Two trips I haven't mentioned. One, was the climb up Mt. Washington in '84, and climb it we did. Easy climb as far as the first aid station, then veered off to the Lion Head Trail. Toughest climb there. Finally got the tee shirt. I see these cars with that ridiculous bumper sticker, and think, "these FEET climbed it". I always wonder how the transmission and brakes fared. French wine and cheese at 5,000 feet. Watching snow fall below us. And two, the white water rafting down the Shenandoah River in '77. Thumbed a ride in a Huey, got dropped off on someone's farm, and along the way visited Harper's Ferry.. Then a slow leisurely ride down the Potomac to just above Great Falls. That whole trip paid for with your tax dollars, btw. Thanks. quite the world traveler, ain't I? II once edited a book for a friend of my now ex, and had a photo published in a world-wide publication. To wit- The Grapevine calendar of AA, appearing in 1997 for the month of March. Attended the final game to be played at Shea Stadium, and also the final Red Sox game at the old Yankee Stadium, of which I own a piece.
