My Kids
My children are doing well; at least they are out on their own. (smile) As we all know, we still never are completely rid of them. The oldest one has 2 children; one girl (9 yrs. old) and one boy (23 mos. old). Yes, I am a grandmother twice over and I have to admit, I am a GOOD grandmother (MaMa)!! *The update to this part is the oldest grandchild (18 yrs old) has now graduated from I.C. Norcom High School and will be entering Norfolk State University in the fall (Social Work). My grandson is now 10.
My youngest daughter is too much like what her mother USED to be, but she doesn't have any children and is not married. She's living out the remainder of my "hay-days". No, she's trying to pursue a career, then let the rest fall into place. Smart girl!! She takes after her mother.
My Job
I work at Norfolk State University, in the Army ROTC Department as the Supply Tech. I enjoy working with the Cadets, it can be a very rewarding experience. There are so many young people who are in college for reasons other than higher education. So many come with lots of extra baggage (problems) and I have become "Ma" to the majority of them. My directing and re-directing them pays o...Expand for more
ff once they receive their commission and go off. They have called me from all parts of the world, just to say hi, see how I am doing, tell me how they're progressing and to say thanks for being there for them. Even those that don't receive a commission, but do receive a degree, also call from time to time. I have had parents to call and thank me for looking after their child and guiding them in the right direction. As I said before, that is what makes my job here a wonderful and lasting experience.
As the Supply Technician, I order the uniforms, equipment and supplies needed for the Cadets and the cadre. I issue the uniforms and equipment to the Cadets; making sure they are fitted well to represent, not only, Norfolk State, but the military wear and ME, as well. I want them to Well-Represent this department, not just in the way they look in the uniform, but also in the way they carry themselves, in and out of the uniform.
Oh well, so much for my job. It does get a little tedious at times and yes, I am looking forward to that retirement day!!!!
Well, retirement could have been in 2007 but I decided to stay in the work force longer, and right now, I feel that I'll stay longer.
