Shelley's Story
I have been married for over thirty years to the same man. We have two kids and we still get along great. I love him more every day. We moved to Northern BC. CULTURE SHOCK! One channel on TV initially and winter lasts forever but this is where my husband works so I had to get used to it. I love my job working for a financial institution. My kids both have good jobs. My son is married and my daughter has avoided it twice. We own a Rottweiller named Sabre and he is our surrogate child now that we have empty nest syndrome. I never liked rottweillers before but I have a different type of respect and love for them now. We are looking forward to eventually moving to the Vernon area in the Okanagan to be close to family. Our son, my sisters, hopefully my brothers one day, my mom and stepfather and my daughter if she can get a job in the area. My Dad died from lung cancer over 16 years ago. I will miss him forever. I can't get used to the numbers in my age because it just doesn't seem real except when I do physical activity then I know about it. We also fulfilled our dream...Expand for more
of owning a horse - a couple of different ones actually. Our most favorite was a fat palomino who had quite the personality. We are definitely not cowboys - more like urban cowboys in spite of living in the North. This was a great place to raise the kids for the most part. ***Update as of Summer 2011 - we lost our beloved dog Sabre - it was the worse kind of grief I can ever imagine. We did get another dog - our Bella (aka Crazy Dog sung to the Spiderman theme with numerous verses) because we need something to spoil and love - obviously we need grandchildren. One of these days - I am not pushing for that. We own a home in Vernon that we will eventually move to when we retire - which of course in the long distant future. I will be able to retire quite easily, I think, and do nothing but read and walk and plan different renovation projects for my husband but Fred is a different story. Two days off in a row with nothing to do and the ADD kicks in - I will keep him busy. Might rent him out to the neighbors around Vernon when we get there. Looks like 2015 at this point....
