Shelley's Story
I have changed e-mail addresses and am now going to join this site.
I retired about two years ago as a teacher from the SC prison system, with about 20 years of service credit.
I will begin another new public school teaching job this fall. I had a brief stint as a principal, and can see that management was very challenging, but did not like anything about it except for working with my teachers. It was a great learning experience, but don't choose to pursue being a principal. I got laid off from my previous job, but got another one at the last minute. This has been a hard year on teachers in our state, and the economy won't be better next year for us.I hope I can keep this job for two years, but retired people are the first to go. I do like my new position very much. At this point I am once again updating. My job is certianly in jeopardy again. More talks of day day furloughs for us and lay offs for next year. As the newest person, and a retiree -goodbye. I'll be back in the job hunt in the spring, but am sort of looking at North Carolina. The benefits of being in a state other than the one I'm retired in...Expand for more
is an advantage.
I am married to William Baker 20 years now. We took a trip to Hawaii to celebrate our 20th. I have two stepdaughters two daughters, and 4 grandkids.
I like to travel, read, love music, and have pets that I adore.
I look forward to reconnecting with people from Hoover. My recent picture is on top of Diamond Head. It was a hard hike up, but easy coming down. I had the good fortune of taking a trip to England and Ireland with my friend Kris Barnett from Hoover last summer. She and I had such fun. I am going to post this summer's Hawaii pictures. I have met a couple of new people on here and they are amazing people--Mona Cotton and Jacqui Baird.
Would like to hear from other people. This is my update. One more thing--I found Susie Getz on Facebook and she and I have reconnected.
It is spring 2010. So many people endured odd winters. I think I am retired for real . No jobs! Got a little mountain house and think I will hang out there and not worry. I lost my beloved dog of almost 17 years. Broke my heart and then I found a dog who needs me as much as I need her. I must update some pictures.
