Shelly's Story
Life
I'm married to an Aussie, living on the Central Coast of Australia. I have two Eclectus parrots, who are my only children. I figure I know enough people with kids that if I need a kid fix they'd be happy to lend them out and I can give them back at the end of the day and not have to worry about all the problems that go along with them. I just get the good stuff!
I got to semi-retire when I moved to Australia 10 years ago, but I'm busier now than I ever was while working. I own and direct an IT company with my husband. Life has been sweet!
School
Mr Nicolson, the Drama teacher was my biggest "teacher" inspiration. I love how he portrayed different characters, because of him and the passion he instilled in me for dramatic arts, I have always been involved in theater in one way or another. Including 8 years on a community drama team that did all original plays 4 times a year. It was a time in my life I'll never forget.
If I knew then what I know now and could change things, I think I'd be a bigger success, however, I doubt that I'd want to go back to that time in my life.
Craziest school memories... anytime spent in Lincoln House woods! Or better still, when Jeff, Tim and I skipped ...Expand for more
school and went up to Mt Rainier for the day! What a blast.
Workplace
Moved to Florida in 82, started menial jobs at grocery stores, phone soliciting positions, had one secretarial job in a law firm that lasted 1 week.
Moved to Pennsylvania in 84, again menial cashier jobs.
Moved to Minnesota in 85, worked at 7-11 for 5 years, then got a job with some friends as a secretary in a real estate office, stayed there till another RE office stole me away, then went to work at The Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters and was there till I left the US.
Retired as soon as my feet left the ground and I landed here. My husband and I started our IT company 5 years ago and we made close to $1mil in the first year. We are now about to expand by absorbing another IT company. Exciting times.
I'm basically a housewife with ownership and directorship in the company, although taking care of my husband can really be a full time job sometimes!
Military
Never been in the Military, but I'm sure proud of our men and women and support them fully!
We just purchased motorcycles in October of 2009 and have ridden them all over. Though it's going into winter now, not sure how much more we'll get to ride this season.
