Sheri's Story

Life I am currently living in San Jose, California with my husband, Dennis, and our two young adopted children, Tanya and Angelica. I am working for Kaiser Permanente in Santa Clara as the Administrative Services Manager for the Home Health & Hospice Departments. It is a very busy and rewarding job, which I love. I also love being a mother and try to spend as much time as possible being involved with our 2 girls. I moved to California in 1975 to audition for the World Champion Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps. There were spots open in their color guard and I nervously tried out. I was so excited when I made it and I then spent the next several years of my life fully committed to performing and teaching in the activity. I have been truly blessed by being involved in this activity, as I have traveled not only to every state in the United States and many areas in Canada, but also to parts of Europe and the USSR. I truly love living in California and have never once considered returning to the Northwest. I feel like this is my home. My husband, Dennis, and I have been married for almost 12 years now. He is from New York originally and is currently a band director at a local High School. He keeps me involved in teaching color guard at the high school level, which is just enough. I do get up to the Northwest perhaps once a year to see my family, who all still live there. My brothers are both still living in the Portland/Vancouver area and my mother is living in McM...Expand for more
innville, Oregon. School My biggest crush in high school was a boy named Larry Winters. I have never heard what became of him, but I thought he was soooo cute. The teacher that I enjoyed the most was Mrs. Melver, my physical education teacher. I loved doing gymnastics (although I wasn't very good at it) and spent hours working out in the gymnastics area with my friends. School was easy for me and my friends. We all did well in school and spent a lot of time in the library one our off time. We did like to take short walks to Burgerville upon the corner for lunch. To this day I still crave Burgerville burgers. I even took my husband there once last year and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Workplace My first job out of high school was as a transcriptionist for AEtna Life & Casualty. I was fortunate to be transferred to California by the company when I told them I was moving there. I worked for AEtna and attended Junior College for about 3 years. I then trained to become a claims adjuster and continued working in Insurance for about 10 years. After that I decided I needed to get into another field and went into the Legal Industry, starting out as a Legal Assistant/Paralegal. I spent about 8 years working with attorneys. Some were very nice to work with and some not so nice. After that I decided to get into the healthcare field, which is where I am now and where I think I will stay. It's a very challenging, but rewarding field and I truly enjoy all of the people I work with.
