Sheri's Story
Oh, my! So much has happened - where do I start? After high school, I went to NAIT for Architecture (where is that drafting teacher now, who didn't want a female in his class?!?) Loved it, and was offered a job with AGT - you remember, Avrybuddy Got Telephones - in the OPE&C (engineering) department, downtown in the Tower. When they opened their satellite office in Grande Prairie I went up north for the adventure! Engineering wasn't really in my original plans, but you know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men...While I was up there (and still on two fast wheels!) I was offered an opportunity with Canada Safety Council to be a driving instructor. WOW! Why not? It was great, but I did have to pull in the reins a bit.. not as much speed and a lot more stunting! We had done a course at the Canadian Forces Air Station out of Beaverlodge where I had a student with a little more on his agenda than just perfecting driving on two wheels. (We have just had our '30something' anniversary). From CFS Beaverlodge, we were posted to CFB Penhold where I was hired on as a civ...Expand for more
ilian contractor to the military. 3 years there, then on to CFB Calgary for a 'triple tour' - 7 years. An addition of two amazing daughters, 7 years apart - both unplanned, but very welcome, gave us some more of a focus. Back to CFB Penhold to finish out with reg. forces, a few more years in the reserves, and then the service life was over and back to civilian life. Horses had always been a passion we shared, so I started a small horse breeding business which was incredible! After 7 years of the 'Great Western Dream' I bought a tailoring business in Lacombe (Mr. Carson, do you remember Dracula? I was the one who made some of the costumes for that production) and somewhere in the past 10 or so years the travelling bug bit. Just a little nibble at first, but that bug is tenacious, and we both loved it! I'm sorry that the only reunion we had been to was the 10th (that wasn't really 30 years ago, was it?) and we had missed the last one. I will make a very real concerted effort to get to the next one if I find out about it! It would be great to see everyone again and share stories!
