Sheri's Story

Life Came to the Chicagoland area in 1984, I came down here with Tom McLenithan and Wayne LaVigne we were all attending DeVry University. I went to school for 1 1/2 years and then my funding was canceled, so I continued to work at the company I was working at part-time while going to school. Later I begun working full-time for the same company, we do fundraising in the schools. I actually still work for them and this November, 2004 it will be 20 years. I was promote to a Supervisory posiition in the Sales Depart. and now work part-time as a Sales Rep. so I can be home more with my children. Being gone 13 hours a day with a 3 hr. trip in traffic was exhausting. Now I currently work from my home and I am only away from my house 70 hours a month. In 1992, Tom and I had our 1st daughter, Kaitlyn, who is now 12 and in 1994 we welcomed our 2nd daughter, Meghan, who is now 10. Tom and I got married on August 8, 1996 after 16 years of being together, our daughters as our flowergirls. In 1998, we had our 1st son, named Ian, who is now 6. Most recently, we were blessed with our 4th child, Ryan, who is almost 2. If you're wondering yes, this is the last baby. Prior to having children we did a lot of traveling and nowadays we do a lot of family things with our kids. Every now and then Tom and I do sneak out for a long weekend for just the two of us. One very intersting thing I did when I was only 20, boy it is hard to believe how close 40 is, well back to that interesting thing; I got to throw out the first pitch at a Cubs game at Wrigley Field. I had my name in lights was on national TV and got to meet Harry Carey. I would like to think that I have done some good in this world by setting up company blood drives. Tom, I, and our children live in Waukegan, Illinois, we have for the past 8 years. We recently bought a bigger home, that fits all our kids. We are trying to get our previous home sold. We moved a bloc...Expand for more
k away. We love our neighborhood and the school system and it sure is convenient to move your stuff only a block. Each year we get together with friends from college and other Yooper friends for what we call our Yooper Party. It is a two day get-together we play games, talk about old times, and what our kids our up too. We spend the evening around the fire pit. We have a talented friend that writes songs about our younger years. I use to play lots of golf and did a lot of fishing with Tom. Now that our daughters are old enough we are finally getting more opportunities to date again, you know like go to the movies and nice dinners. It is fun taking our kids to the wonderful things that the Chicagoland offers. They love the big city and get excited by it as much as we do. It is actually a beautiful city with a lifetime of things to see and do. So I think I will finally be able to take up golf and fishing again. Our children actually thing of Wayne LaVigne as their uncle. He only lives about 45 minutes away. We probably will continue to live in this area we are very close to the Wisconsin border, so yes my kids are Packers fans. We get home approx. 3 times a year, but our families get down here to visit us too. As the kids get older it just gets harder to come home because they are involved in many activities. I love being a mother and a wife. Actually Tom and I still get a kick out of calling each other "my wife" or "my husband." I is hard to believe we have been out of school for over 20 years. I was unable to go to our 20th class reunion because I had just had surgery, but Tom was able to go and had a great time! I plan to be there for the next one! We are hoping to find time in the next few years to get out and use our boat more and want to get a camper and travel around the USA with the kids. It is so fun seeing and exploring things that they are learning about or have studied about in school.
