Sherron Bilyeu:

CLASS OF 1962
Portland, OR

Sherron's Story

Since graduating, my life has been pretty boring, except, that I married fellow '62 classmate Jim Bilyeu. I did a year at Portland State and then went to work, because at that time, Carolyn Ball re-introduced me to Jim, things got serious, and I went to work to save money for a wedding, etc. Both Carolyn Ball and Judy Holmes (Jeff '64) were attendants for me at our wedding. (I'd really like to know where they are and get back in touch with them.) A year later, we started a family and have two daughters, no grandchildren. I worked full-time for an auto insurance company and later worked pt-time for pharmacies after our last daughter was born. My last job was with the City of Portland. I also was volunteer coordinator for the Portland Police Bureau and went through the PPB citizen Police Academy. The best thing doing that was firing off different guns and taking their defensive driving course. Jim also took the class but not at the same time. You have to be invited to participate. I was also involved in crime prevention programs, i.e.; seated on the Virginia Law board committee, monthly meetings with other coordinators and Chief Charles Moose, neighborhood involvement, N.E.T. team leader and was a KATU Neighborhood Hero. Pretty exciting for a really boring girl. I was involved in my daughter's school, PTA president, Blue Bird leader and because my daughter was taking a music class, I got to go back to Jefferson and help out the orchestra, by participating in the Christmas program. That was an eye-opener, to go back the Jeff, and, meet kids that hadn't been born when we graduated, nor ever saw a bassoon. By dragging out the "bouncing bedpost", I took a chance and joined the St. Helens Community Orchestra for the production, "Brigadoon". I thought my lips would explode when I tried to impersonate a Bagpipe, as I'd never, ever seen notes in that high an octave. A bagpiper was finally brought in. One of the best things I did, was work on the Woodlawn Class of '58 schoo...Expand for more
l reunion. What fun. Most of the meetings were at our house and it was great to get back in touch with old friends again. Unfortunately, we have lost a few old friends by their dying early, and I haven't really kept up with the rest like I'd like. We need to have a get-together again. That was so much fun, and the memories and b.s. really came out. Being on the Jeff Dance Team at the football games, gave me some confidence to get back into dancing in the '70's. I joined a polynesian and jazz dance troupe. We danced anywhere (almost) that was legal and would pay expenses for the group. The funniest time for me was when I almost lost my tahitian skirt dancing at an Elks get-together at Long Beach. My teacher had to grab my skirt to keep it from falling off! The worst times were when I had to dance in the front or middle of the polynesian numbers, and everyone noticed how darn pale I was, compared to the tanned girls!! I finally gave it up when my knee blew out. Jim and I have been married 45 years in May. He retired from Freightliner last January '09, after 46 years there. (He had worked there longer than anyone. A record!) On the weekends we enjoy going to our cabins (Backachers) by Cougar, WA. Jim bought a landscape tractor and is making berms, roads, and in general, raising cain with the landscape, but having fun. We take our two dogs, a Malamute and a Wolf (hybrid). Up there, they stay with Jim and here they're mine!! One of our daughters lives very nearby and builds us each a fire, when she knows we are coming up. As I am a chronic pain patient, I don't get to go to the cabin as much as I'd like, and I'm very fortunate to have Jim for a husband, as he is very patient and understanding with me. Of couse, he has to be!! Well, this is my blurb! I don't know if you've read it all to the end, but I'd like to thank my friends that have expressed an interest in me. Please understand why I don't respond as I'd like. See you at the 50th!! Cordially, Sherron
