Sherry's Story
After high school, I went to WT and AC - yes, I was very close to my Mom and Dad and wasn't ready to leave Amarillo. I was also a member of a singing group at church; we made an album in Nashville. I went to the lake with a friend from church in the summer of 1981 and met my husband that day. I actually got up on one ski my first try, but fell when we went into a cove and when the boat turned, I kept going straight. My ear drum burst and I lost a pearl earring that my dear friend Kathy gave me, so Mike bought me a new pair. We married 6 months later. 9 1/2 months later, our awesome son Justin was born. Precious Lindsay was born 21 months later. We felt blessed to have a healthy son and daughter, so Mike had a vasectomy. Well, 7 years later, we decided we wanted another child, so Mike had his vasectomy reversed and Jordan was born approx a year and 1/2 later in 1991. We were blessed to have 3 wonderful and beautiful children. Then, due to the stresses of life and jobs in the same company (Cellular One) that demanded much of u...Expand for more
s, we divorced in 1993. We continued to work in the same company and then reconciled and remarried in 1999. A tragic automobile accident took the life of our lovely Lindsay in 2003, at the age of 19. We have dealt with much grief, but by the grace of God, we have survived and grown closer. I pray that no other classmates have to deal with the loss of a child. Mom's life was taken by ovarian cancer in 2005. She is dearly missed. Justin's passion is sailing and he is currently first mate on a yacht in Connecticut. He earned his captain certification and is gaining experience to get to that position. Jordan is a senior at Bushland High School and we are proud of him. After managing 19 years for Cellular One and 1 year for Alltel, I am now the CFO for Victor & Debbie Leal, who own Leal's Mexican Food restaurants in Amarillo and Muleshoe. After managing the sales force at Cellular One for 18 years, Mike is taking care of our ranch, which is about 60 miles Northeast of Amarillo, and guiding hunts. We live South of Bushland, TX.
