Sheryl's Story

January 2011...After working at the local radio station as the Office Coordinator for the past 11 and a half years and at Super Food Services (now Nash Finch) for a total of 25 years before that, I have now retired. I was fortunate to have been able to spend 10 years at home with my boys during their formative years. Philip and I have been married 44 yrs and have two sons (the oldest in law enforcement & Navy Reserve who has a daughter and the youngest a youth minister who is currently working at the University of Phoenix has a son). We are blessed to have 2 terrific grandkids. Abby is 12 and Kaleb is 4 years and we are expecting a new Grandchild in June 2011. Since it's our son Tyler and his wife expecting the new one, we are planning more trips out west. Update: Our Grandson, Karsten was born in June and is a sweet little guy! He's now 7 months old. Kaleb was 5 in August and Abby turned 13 in November. We are truly blessed with a great family. My Mom & Dad still live on Auburn Street (same house as when i was in high school). Dad's health is good but Mom has arthritis and it's a little rougher for her, but I'm truly blessed to have had them for all these years)! I LOVE BEING RETIRED!! It was especially nice to be in Arizona when Karsten was born! Now on to year two of retirement...............I can hardly wait!! Update #2: Grandkids are growing so fast...Abby is 14 now, Kaleb is 6, and Karsten is 1 year old. Year #2 of retirement was just as awesome as year one. I highly recommend it!! Update #3: Retirement just keeps getting better! I enjoy the Class of '64 luncheon get-togethers usually twice a year. These are set-up by Kathy Peck Comer. Our oldest son, John just returned safely from a deployment in Afghanistan...prayers answered and we still enjoy visiting our family in Arizona a couple of times a year. Grandkids are now 15 (almost), 7 and 2 and growing like weeds. We also have three new Granddaughters and a Great Grandson added when John remarried and they are a great addition to the family and my brother, Jeff got married in July to a terrific lady, so our family just keeps growing. My Dad is now 90 and Mom is 89. They are still living on their own! I am blessed! Update#4 - I have been retired going on 8 years now. The time is just flying by. There have been major changes in the heal...Expand for more
th of my parents this past year. Mom is now in a care center but Dad is still at home. I'm so thankful that my brother Jeff and I are able to help him stay there and go see Mom every day possible. Our granddaughter, Abby is now 19 and engaged to be married next June. Kaleb will turn 12 in a few weeks and Karsten was 7 in June. " I am truly blessed.** **Sadly, my Mother passed away August 8th, 2018. Knowing that she is much better off now doesn't ease the pain of missing her for all of us. The upside of that is she was a born again believer and we know where she is now! Praise God! Nine months ago I posted the above message about my Mom. Yesterday, May 8th 2019, my Dad passed away to join her. We are sad and heart broken, but find JOY knowing that he is now with Mom and his Lord Jesus in Heaven! He instilled in us Love & Faith in his 96 years on earth! What a wonderfully lucky person I've been having the world's Greatest Parents!! R.I.P. Dad & Mom! We will see you again someday! On June 15th, 2019 our Granddaughter married Cody Lyons. He's a sweet and caring young man and we are so happy for her. They are both hard working and will do well in the years to come. Update #5 - Well, after dealing with a long (very long) pandemic since March 2020 we made it to 2021. On June 14th of this year we were blessed with a Great Granddaughter Sloane Elizabeth Lyons. She is beautiful and we are so thankful for her. Our son, John is the proud Grandpa! Sloane is the daughter of Abby & Cody Lyons. Due to the pandemic we have not seen our son, Tyler and his family since Abby's wedding in June 2019 and we are looking forward to being able to see them hopefully next Spring if things calm down. Karsten is 10 and Kaleb is 15. I'm now retired for 10 years and enjoying it (most of the time). Update #6 - Well, the last two years have just flown by! Our Granddaughter is now expecting her 2nd baby (a boy) in July. Sloane will be two in June. It's still hard to grasp that we are Great Grandparents. Not much else has changed except my age. I may not look the same as I did years ago, but I still feel the same. I will update again after our new little one arrives. Update #7 - Little Dutton Mikael Lyons arrived on July 3rd. We don't get to see him as often as we did our grandchildren but he's a precious addition to the family.
