Shery's Story

Life I graduated from Washington HS in 1968 and went on to receive a bachelors degree in teaching from the University of Iowa, and then obtained a masters degree from Ohio State University. Upon graduation, I joined a modern dance company and toured the US for 15 years, living in San Fransisco, New York, and finally Seattle. This is where I met my husband, Daniel Joseph. It took me a while to find the right one and I married at the young age of 33 and we are blessed with two children (Jeremy who is 21 and Nathaniel who is 16). I loved being a mother but decided to worked outside of the home and for five years I was a drug and alcohol counselor, my clients were adolescents and adults. I was also a member of another counseling group for women who thought they might be pregnant, by presenting them with options and assisting them in their decisions. Both of these positions were very rewarding. My latest job was substitute teaching (k-8) in the charter school my son attended. We moved from Seattle to just south of Denver and for 14 years loved the skiing, biking, camping and all the out door activitie. We have justed returned to Colorado after living in Australia for 6 months, this was a great adventure and I would advise you all to travel. My husband works for Boeing and we were relocated there so he could help the Aussi Air Force work on their military radar system. We were able to travel to Fraiser Island (the biggest sand island in the world), watch whales as they migrated south for the summer, visit the Great Barrier Reef, and see the well know turtle refuge called Mariposa. When we left to return to the states we stopped in New Zealand and were blown away by the beautiful scenery. I would highly recommend this to anyone. We rented a motorhome and traveled the south island. We were able to experience the beauty of glaciers, fiords and unbelievable hikes through crystal blue lakes and water falls. My son, who is into photography took 6,000 pictures. It was a true blessing. From New Zealand we visited Singapore and then onto a 10 day tour through Eygpt. We were able to see one of the seven wonders of the world, the pyramids, and Luxor (Valley of the Kings). We took a cruise down the Nile, taking in Abu Simble. This allowed us to step back 4,000 years. Egypt is a very poor and corrupt country but one full of riches and history. Traveling has been a big part of my life, as I have been able to visit many countries (France, Italy, Russia, former Yuposlovia and Hungary). This has given me a different perspective on other cultures and has allowed me to appreciate what we have here in the States. My dad died in November of 2007 and I was able to come home from Australia to attend the funeral. This wa...Expand for more
s a blessing and provided some healing and closure for our family. I am really looking forward to our 40th reunion this summer and can hardly believe it has been 40 years. How we all have changed and matured but yet there is still a lot that remains the same. We are all in different stages of life, some retiring, some still raising families, and some enjoying their grandchildren. I am still trying to listen to my heart and seeking the path on which God wants me. It is through the trials in our lives that make us the person we are today. We are older ,not only physically but mentally and with that comes wisdom and maturity. It is hard living with bodies that do not do what they once did, but it allows us to slow down and enjoy the world as it goes by. I live in HIghlands Ranch,Co and the year 2012 will prove to be a year of transitions. My husband works for Boeing and has taken on a new job in Everett Washington. He has begun his new job and will premanantly move there in January. We will put our house on the market in March and when the house sells will move to Medford, Oregon where we will retire. My sister Karyn lives there and my mother will follow our move and live with me in the house we buy till my husband retires. I will go back and forth between Medford and Seattle and enjoy the west coast. I truely believe God has some exciting adventures ahead and I am ready for the challenge. It will be fun to be living in the same town with family again. Am looking forward to doing all sorts of out door activiities that the west has to offer. Will keep updating this as things happen. I moved to Medford Oregon in May of 2012 where we are retiring. My husband will join me here in March of 2014 after he has been the Risk Manager for the 787 Dreamliner. Boeing has been able to get the problems with the plane fixed and they will have the next 787-9 ready to come off the line in August. I have been living between Seattle and Medford. We moved my mom up here in August of last year and she is coming along quite well. She turns 90 this year so there will be a big celebration in December. Wow 4 years have passed and I just turned 68 with our HS reunion this coming fall. My mom is now 94 and getting married March 2nd to a lovely 92 year old man who is so sweet and she is so happy. They are like teenagers holding hands and kissing. It gives many of the residents in their retirement facility hope and they love watching them grow in their love for one another. My husband is now retired and we have been able to travel to New Zealand, Australia, Israel, and bought a travel trailer and have been touring round our USA. We are so blessed to live in their beautiful country. Looking forward to our reunion in Sept. May God bless you!
