Shirley's Story
Where to begin????
Two months after graduating in 1963, my Dad was pulled into Ford Motor Company's international division. I was off to Mexico City for a 1-3 year planned stretch. The two years we were there, I attended Universidad Las Americas down there with a psychology major. Knew it wasn't for me, but Ford was paying for it. A trip one weekend to Taxco, Mexico showed me my love and my future.
When I returned to the states I attended the Gemological Institute of America, in Santa Monica, California for my Graduate Gemologists degree, and spent many, many weeks in different locations in the U.S. to train for and get my Master Jewelers accreditation "hands-on". I then went to work for Shifrin Willens Jewelers in their main offices. I worked for them for 13 years before moving to North Carolina. I just love the sunny warm weather down here.
29 years ago this past August, I opened my own studio in Matthews, NC...a suburb of Charlotte, NC. Those of you that may remember me as being fairly independent and determined, I really haven't changed. I am a total work-a-holic because I love what I do...and my awards show that I do it well.

want the beach, it is 2 1/2 hours due east. If I need a major airport to travel somewhere, it's here. My 5 siblings and other assorted relatives in Michigan know that they will not see me from Halloween to Easter. I broke that 38 year long rule this past November 6th for a family wedding. Y'all had freezing up there. But, I did take a half day and had the opportunity to hook up with a "long time ago" friend, Eleanor Bilicki-sikes. I found it was worth dealing with the cold. But I will never admit that to my family up there. I found that it really was amazing to reconnect and share our past years. I guess that is why I decided to do more with my "classmates" listing than just post one picture. I may even venture to the get-together next August, since it falls outside my "no-snow weather" rule.
