Shirley's Story
I have often wondered where to begin. I have wondered...who would even care what happened to me (Shirley Watts/Gordon) after high school. I didn't make friends easily while at school. Nor did I keep many after leaving. But classmates keeps sending these emails asking me to "fininsh my story"....so here it goes. For me, It seemed that life began it's own journey after I left high school. As many of you know. I married my high school sweetheart prior to our senior year. Because I could. We had three beautiful boys. I began college when my youngest was less than 4 years old. Which I am sure didn't help a stressed marriage to survive it's toll it takes on anyone. We parted ways when I began my career in Law Enforcement. I soon married a fellow officer, and was blessed with two more beautiful and awesome children.... a daughter and a son. It was at this point that I decided that it was time to leave the criminal justice community and focus my training in other areas. I was hired by Highline School district as a Security Officer, where I brought my training and experience and along with a fellow officer helped to develop the security programs you see today operating in your local schools. But then, King County got wind of the grants available to schools and soon the School Resource Officer program was born. I stayed 8 years there before moving on to take on the responsibility of the fulltime caregiver of my High Functioning Autistic son. Who I am proud to say is an "Einstein" and is finishing up his first year in college. I am remarried and have been for many years now...to a wonderful man. We reside in Sammamish WA. We have no children in common. But his addition brought our...Expand for more
family count to seven children. We also, have managed to bring three other children into our home to help raise at one point or another. Which has been a very rewarding experience for both of us. As for my kids...besides mr einstein...the oldest became a private helicopter pilot and has done nothing with it, lol,... my second son is currently in the military as a military police officer, the third son is (in his own words) a techy...corporate level, and my daughter just finished her time as a marine (one of the few trained as a flight crew chief for the osprey helicopter), and the last... mr einstein you already know about. I am a grandma and I have two grandchildren. Who of course I love to spoil as much and as often as possible. I look back on my years at Cleveland H.S. with fond memories. But I cannot tell a lie...high school was hard. During those years, our country and state was in transition. We faced budget cuts and civil unrest. My schooling wasn't the greatest...so it didn't prepare me academically for the road ahead of me. As a mother of three young boys, I spent countless hours in school preparing to go to college. But once done, I could look back and be ever so grateful for the training I received in learning how to survive being a grown up ...due in part to attending Cleveland High School. It fostered and created the will to survive anything or anyone. It gave me the confidence to hold my head up high no matter what ...and continue on. So now, I stand (okay so I am sitting at the computer) here happy with where I came from...and where I have been...and where I am going. I hope my classmates can say the same. So there you have it.....the rest of the story.
